We are Maxine and Sammi, a mother-daughter duo (think more Gilmore Girls than Dick Dastardly and Muttley), grabbing life by the balls to bring you creative designs to bring a spark of fun to an otherwise meh world. We've always talked about starting a business together, but the first nameless inception was going to be cakes and baked goofs. Like most people, we loved watching The Great British Bak

e Off and experimented with our own creations to the point where we were getting pretty good and had made the odd things for friends and family. Then life happened - Sammi flew the nest to live with Little Sis, and eventually got hitched and got a nest of her own. Then in 2017, the unimaginable happened - our youngest son/brother, Ben, died very suddenly and unexpectedly just two months after his 23rd birthday. We were completely deversated, and such a loss is not something that you move past. Ben was such an easy going lad, who embraced whatever came his way and took whatever opportunities he could. We miss him everyday...

Through all this, we found comfort in crafting, and moved away from cakes to bags and teddies, of all things. Like with the cakes, we watched The Great British Sewing Bee and we started making our own creations and a new business plan developed, and this time the business had a name - Smiling Boo, in memory of Ben, nicknamed Boo from a young age and to reflect his happy-go-luck outlook on life. The next thing we knew, Sammi had her own Little Miss on the way and the world was suddenly plunged into lockdown because of Covid. That halted things for a couple of years, and during that time we both became obsessed with Cricut and everything that came with it. This time, there were no shows to teach and inspire us, so we had to get crafty and just go for it! Many hours of YouTube and trial-and-error later, we reimagined what Smiling Boo was going to be about. And here we are, 10 years after we first talked about it, officially opening the doors of Smiling Boo. The rest, as they say, is history...

WE’RE STILL HERE!!! We’ve had a couple of months with lots happening, including a couple of events, experimenting and Summer planning (with a bit of Christmas planning thrown in for good measure). We’ve also been preparing for our next event with Little Hummingbird Events, which is this weekend at Elsecar Heritage Centre. The forecast is looking good, so why not have a wander down to meet us and other fab makers, crafters and bakers!!! Will you be there? Share with your friends and family to let them know!!!

Hey crafty pals! 🎨 So, here we are knee-deep in craft show prep. We've been busy making our products - you know, the ones that are gonna blow everyone's minds at the event (and for www.smilingboo.com)! 🤯 Just received a delivery of a fabulous new table runner for our display. Gotta admit, it's giving our booth that extra pizzazz! Sorry not sorry to the hubby for yet another delivery... oops! 🙈 But hey, it's all in the name of crafty success, right? We're counting down the days to our first public event on Saturday 30th March at the Ridings Shopping Centre in Wakefield, curated by Hummingbird Events - who's excited? We definitely are! Let the crafting chaos continue! 💪

Oh, how swiftly February's embrace fades into the mists of time! In these recent moons, we've been ensnared in the enchanting dance of preparation for a forthcoming artisan gathering in the waning days of March. This maiden voyage into the realm of public showcase fills our hearts with boundless joy and anticipation 🤩. Yet, such revelry demands countless twilight hours and weekends enrobed in the craft's embrace, birthing our wares with tender care. Amidst this magical whirl, a moment was captured of Mama Boo amidst a grand pottery ritual 😁! Behold, over 300 treasures stand ready - each imbued with the essence of - with fewer than 100 awaiting their final enchantment. Fear not, dear ones, for your presence is ever cherished! Should any of these wonders catch your eye, journey forth to our sanctum (AKA www.smilingboo.com) and claim a piece of magic after this time, a fleeting eternity.

Hey! We hope you guys have been loving all the new things we have on our site! This really is a passion for us to create new things and bring them to you.

📚 This past week has involved the shop update and a move of one of the Boo Rooms - Sammi was previously in her conservatory and is now in her old home office. The plan was to redecorate, but we're kinda loving the 'Hogwarts Library' vibes - what do you guys think?

🤬 We are also starting to prep fro our first public craft fair at the end of March (more info next week), and this has meant a lot of things being made! 36 tote bags pressed, printed and ready to go in 2 days... well, it was 37, but as you can see we made a booboo... Give us a like and a comment when you spot the 'deliberate' mistake.... 😅
