​I had my lumbar puncture on the 5th of August, which turned into a total nightmare. The doctor doing it seemed nice enough at first, but after hitting bone twice, he tried to draw fluid on the third attempt—only he wasn't even in the right spot. It hurt so much that I told him he had to stop and take the needle out. He then claimed he couldn’t do it and actually wrote on my notes that I had refused the procedure! The nurse wasn’t impressed, and neither was I.

​After avoiding me for three hours, the nurse made him come speak to me. His excuse for failing? Apparently, I’m "not a slim frame" 😆🙄. A formal complaint has definitely been made.

​Meanwhile, the fluid buildup in my neck is really bad and my symptoms are getting worse. Tests that were supposed to take a week dragged out for four weeks. After my latest appointment, I was referred for an emergency MRI and an X-ray-guided lumbar puncture, which was supposed to happen within seven days. I chased them up today and managed to snag a cancellation for an MRI tomorrow morning at 9:15 AM.

​This scan should clarify whether it’s a CSF leak or if we're still looking at hydrocephalus—both of which will require surgery. I should know more by tomorrow or Friday and will keep you posted.

​On a brighter note, I am still fully planning on travelling to Ukraine at the end of September. I have something very important to do there—it’s a surprise, and I can’t wait!

Thought i would do a mini upgrade. Symptoms at the moment aren't the best. However this Wednesday is my lumber puncture 🥰. It is definitely hydrocephalus or a csf leak. As I have fluid building up in my neck. I am still looking towards September for our next trip. I will keep you all posted on Wednesday. Have a fab weekend. Hi everyone, just wanting to share a quick update. I’m still waiting for my emergency lumbar puncture. I’ve been back and forth to Birmingham, and while they tried everything to get me in this week, my surgeon is now on holiday. They return on August 5th, which is when my appointment is now scheduled. I did ask if I’ll make it that far, and I was told I should do, so for now, I’m in limbo again.

​Despite all this, I’m going to start making some tentative plans for the middle of September. I’m not setting it in stone so I can easily move it by a week or so if I need to. If I end up having another surgery, I’d be about 6 weeks post-op by then.

​With that in mind, I’ll start posting the things we will need next week. It will still be a drop-off at my house. Please bear with me, though—I still have mobility issues, so I might struggle to answer the door sometimes, but we can always sort that out as and when. I am also dealing with a few communication issues; I can completely forget what I’m saying or get my words mixed up so nothing makes sense! Hopefully, that will improve once they fix the pressure issues.

Hey everyone. I want to give a proper update on what’s been going on with my health lately.

For 2 weeks i was doing really well then when the heat came i went down hill over the weekend i went away.

​Last week, I started getting really bad ear pain, weird noises, and muffled hearing. The hearing has thankfully gone back to normal, but the pain hasn't. It honestly feels like my ears are about to explode, and it’s definitely not just an infection. I was struggling to control the pain and couldn't even eat because I was being constantly sick, so I knew something wasn't right. Plus my walking is still dodgy which can be another symptom. Thank god as I have caught it early.

​I ended up in Birmingham A&E twice, which was an awful experience. All they wanted to do was a lumbar puncture—which is a really serious and risky thing to do to a Chiari patient! Thankfully, they eventually just did a CT scan.

​After a bit of a conversation with my surgeon's secretary 🙄, she agreed to email him while he was away at a conference. Fair play to him, he is absolutely amazing. He rang her straight away and told her to get me an appointment anywhere possible on Monday so he could see me.
​We went through the scan I had done the day after my op, alongside the new one from last week. They found a few pockets of fluid buildup and are concerned it might be hydrocephalus. Basically, the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that normally protects the brain, removes waste, and provides nutrients isn't draining properly, which causes a buildup of pressure. This totally explains my symptoms, including the ear pain and my issues with walking.

​So, what’s next?
This isn't a final diagnosis yet, but here is where we are at:
​I’m on a very strong dose of steroids until Friday.
​If things don't improve by Monday, I’ll be booked in for a lumbar puncture within 2 days.
​If that shows high pressure, I’ll be admitted and will need another surgery the next day to have a stent fitted.

​My last surgery i was told today was complicated. My surgeon actually mentioned that out of the 400+ patients he sees a year, he only operates on about 15! Plus, having Crohn’s means I can’t take medications like ibuprofen, which makes pain management, helping with inflammation and recovery so much longer and harder.

​Right now, I'm just focusing on positive thinking and hoping these steroids do the trick so my surgeon can give me the all-clear. I am so incredibly grateful for him—he didn't rush the appointment, talked me through absolutely everything and showed me all of the scans, I do have an amazing team in Birmingham and i am really greatful to him.

So no wild parties for me this weekend 🤪

Every day is different. One thing first op is have ever had with no infection and how neat it is. 3 weeks and fully healed on the outside. I am happy with it.

Hi all. Just wanted to do a quick update.
I get my stitches out tomorrow which will be so nice. Scar is healing really well. I was allowed to wash my hair yesterday which to me was so nice to do. In this heat my hair was a complete mess. For 9 days I think it is I am doing ok. I tried to walk around morrisons yesterday unfortunately my legs still dont behave so apart from home I am still in the wheel chair it will come back eventually I just have to give it time. My speech is better I am not slurring my words as much.

One thing the heat is not good for is my head but it is what it is. I am happy with the progress. I am actually running away to the sea side for 2 days camping with neil hoping the sea air will be cooler for me. Its more of a rest break but need something after the last week or so. Thank you for cards, flowers etc and the well wishes. Means a lot 🥰 fans

Quick update,. I am home. It was a rough ride home as they forgot to prescribe me anti sickness and its been a very long day. I am glad to be home but its going to be a slow recovery my brain is foggy but sleep is really what I need 😴. I have some beautiful flowers I will post tomorrow 💗. Thank you to everyone for the well wishes. I am doing ok. Yesterday was rough but they got on top of the sickness and I feel so much better. I have a long journey but some of the issues I have had for 2 1/2 years are so much better. I cant say it will fix everything but only time will tell. My wound looks small which is a bonus. fans
