Are you finding your strings too loose or slack when playing in drop tunings, but don’t want to stray from the familiar feeling of 10s or 11s? Jim Dunlop’s Heavy Core strings could be exactly what you need! 🎸

These strings are made with a heavier core:wrap ratio, which means they start with a thicker core wire before the wrap wire is applied to form the outer layer. This allows them to remain stable and give you more pushback, and return to tune far more quickly when you really do ping it out!

Their tone profile is bold, deep, and thick, with strong fundamentals. The darker sound lends itself intrinsically to heavy music as well as those big, rich American-style clean tones.

From celestial twinkling harps to Black Sabbath-influenced downtuning, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness has it all. Listening to this album feels like journeying through an entire universe of sound, just like the ecstatic floating figure on its cover seems to be doing.

It’s a testament to the Smashing Pumpkins that many of their fans wouldn’t even pick this as their favourite album. Where other bands could spend a lifetime trying to create a record this sonically literate and accomplished in its ex*****on, for the Pumpkins it sits as one alongside a number of masterpieces.

If you like your strings with a little extra grip, Slinky Cobalts could be just what you’re looking for! 🎸

The cobalt-iron alloy used for the wrap wire has a tactile, matte, slightly grippy feel which is genuinely exciting to play, and quite positive in attack.

You’ll notice a diffreence in tone, too: due to greater magnetic response and higher output, Ernie Ball’s Cobalt strings are tight, thick, and punchy. Higher output pushes everything a little harder, saturating more, pushing the mids, and therefore smoothing off the top end.
