Paul Baliker has been sculpting for over 35 years and has created more than 1,000 pieces.

This piece is called "Ocean's 11th Hour

His chosen mediums as a sculptor are wood and bronze. His pieces are life-sized, monumental and even fictional. Baliker’s pieces are created from a passion for nature and are environmental in the subject matter. His goal is to capture a moment in wood or bronze that expresses potential for a symbiotic relationship with nature.

Wow!

There’s a trend going around where parents crack an egg on a child’s head and film the child’s reaction…

If you’ve laughed at or participated in this trend I don’t think you’re a bad person or parent…and I also hope you’ll reconsider the impact of this after you read what I have to say.

The part of a child’s brain that computes logic and reasoning doesn’t begin to develop until around 7 years old and isn’t fully developed until the mid to late twenties.

Even at 12 years old, a child’s brain is only tip-toeing into the world of logical operations.

Their emotional brain, on the other hand, is fully developed at birth…not the ability to CONTROL emotions (that comes with logic and reasoning), but the ability to FEEL & SHOW emotions.

So let’s step into the child’s shoes for a minute:
- Imagine that you have an underdeveloped brain that is fully capable of feeling but not capable of understanding the logic or reasoning behind someone else’s actions
- Imagine the person you trust the most decides to set up a camera and invite you to bake without telling you what is **truly** about to happen
- Imagine having the person you trust the most invade your personal space without warning by smacking an egg on your forehead
- Imagine they start laughing out loud when they see your reaction…

What do you feel in that moment?

Betrayed.
Humiliated.
Embarrassed.
Confused.
Angry.
Violated.

What do you NOT feel in that moment?

Respected.
Honored.
Loved.

Beyond that…making a joke out of crossing a child’s personal body boundary at the expense of the child is never funny…not when you see it from the CHILD’S perspective.

I wonder how many choices parents would make differently if they slowed down long enough to consider how the child might feel about their actions.
