Treevolution! these are the steps from raw timber, cut veneers, steam bending, laminating into a block, and finally cutting and profiling of individual boomerangs!

Heres our new level flat surface, 250 kilos of solid cast iron and milled to meet a high standard for flatness- Its the perfect tool for monitoring how true the boomerangs are when they are cut from the block- any twisting or deviation from flat is immediately obvious and measurable

Heres a few Sky Surfer Boomerangs in "raw" state, with various different laminate patterns. These have all been profiled and sanded smooth, next step is oiling with a mix of Linseed and tung oil, then first coat of varnish, and the screen printed logo transfer is applied to the wet varnish at this stage. Then another 2 coats of varnish, final polish, and then Paste wax to finish! From uncut lumber to finished product, these go through 8 distinct processes:
Air drying of cut timber
Reduction of lumber into strips
Steaming and forming the strips into shape
Gluing up and molding
cutting blanks from the molded block
rough shaping T.E. & L.E
Fine shaping and final sanding
Oiling, Varnishing and waxing

....So Ive posted loads of pics of the various stages in making my boomerangs, and completely overlooked any film of how they fly! Thankfully this afternoon was nice and sunny, breeze was about 6 mph I'd say, here is the Will Pearson Boomerangs Sky Surfer, surfing the skies!

...And here's a few pics of the block that I showed in my last post, once its come out of the mold- although at this stage its just roughly planed off, you can start to see how the lines of the different thicknesses and colours/patterns of the different woods used are going to look- Ive used Poplar, Eucalyptus, Ash and Sweet Chestnut woods in this one, & its the first block Ive made with a random pattern- I think its going to look great once its done! Also, first laminate Ive made where Ive added Fibre glass into the glue- Ive been getting a really good bond up till now, but my thinking is that fibre glass will make a kind matrix in the glue, which will mean the glue partly forms its own "Key", which should make for a stronger & more torsionally stiff wing. I'll post photos over the next few days of the next steps in the process. Anyone would like one from this pressing, let me know and I'll reserve one for you! There's only 6 boomerangs to a block, so if you like the look of this set, get in early!
