Our first visit back to Spitiko Greek Restaurant in Caversham since the refurbishment, the restaurant has a fresh new look while the food has the same fresh authentic flavours it has always had.
We started with the kalamari, which we shared as a starter. It was perfectly cooked, tender inside with a light, crisp coating, served with a wedge of lemon and just the right amount of seasoning. Fresh, simple, and exactly what you'd hope for.
For mains, we had the kleftiko and moussaka, and both were outstanding in their own way; the kleftiko was melt-in-the-mouth tender lamb, falling off the bone, and full of flavour whilst the moussaka was rich and comforting, with perfectly layered aubergine, meat, and a creamy béchamel topping that was golden and just slightly crisped.
Service was warm and attentive without being overbearing, and the whole place has a relaxed, family-run charm.
Highly recommend for anyone craving real Greek food made with love.
