Designed in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s, the ZB vz. 26 would become one of the most influential light machine gun designs of its era.

Gas-operated, air-cooled and built with a quick-change barrel, it combined portability, simplicity and battlefield reliability at a time when light machine gun design was still evolving.

Its influence would extend far beyond Czechoslovakia, with the design eventually helping to shape the famous British Bren gun.

In this video, Razvan takes a closer look at the ZB vz. 26 and explains what made it such an important piece of military history.

This remarkable American Civil War-era set survives in its fitted wooden case with period accessories, including a copper powder flask, percussion capper and cap tin.

Fewer than 1,000 Josiah Ells revolvers are believed to have been produced in total, with some estimates suggesting only around 200 Third Model side-hammer examples were made.

Do you know what these tiny books were actually used for?

They're not miniature books at all.

The first is a silver-plated vesta case dating to around 1910, made to carry matches. The second is an Edwardian double-sided design with one side for matches and two compartments for stamps. Both were made in the form of small hardback books.

It's the sort of everyday design we love finding, something practical that was also made to be attractive, tactile and interesting.

More than a century later, they've become fascinating little collectables.

Would you have known what they were used for?

Three Royal Doulton figures, each capturing a different piece of everyday life and tradition.

One of the things that makes Royal Doulton figures so collectible is the amount of character and storytelling packed into each piece. This trio is a wonderful example:

⚓ Sea Harvest HN 2257 – a Mary Nicoll design depicting a fisherman with his net, produced between 1969 and 1976.

🐕 The Huntsman HN 2492 – another characterful design by Mary Nicoll, capturing a traditional country huntsman accompanied by his terrier.

👞 Cobbler HN 1706 – designed by Charles Noke and produced between 1935 and 1969, celebrating an old traditional craft.

Together, they capture three very different worlds: the sea, the countryside and the workshop.

Royal Doulton has been creating character figures for generations, and pieces like these remain popular with collectors for their craftsmanship, detail and unmistakable personality.

If you could choose just one, which would you take home: Sea Harvest, The Huntsman or Cobbler?

All three are currently available from Sally Antiques. Take a closer look on our website.
