Just a reminder for anyone who wants a picture of their much missed Dad included in my Father's Day Memory Post.

Have I made a bear in honour of your Dad or Grandad?
Would you like me to include a photo of him alongside his Memory Bear in my post for Father's Day?

Message me with a picture of your Dad or Grandad and I'll include it in my post on Sunday.
If you commented on my previous post I should already have your photo 👌

This is Big Ted and Jacky.

When Jacky was 2 years old her dad worked for a toy company, selling toys direct from their home. One day Jacky got into the (usually locked) front room where the stock was kept, and she fell in love!
Her parents say that she screamed the house down when Big Ted was taken from her grasp to be put back into the stock room. He was an expensive teddy back then and there was no such thing as staff discount, but Jacky's parents could see what Big Ted meant to her. They did some penny pinching over the following months to make the payments and Jacky got to keep the love of her life.

Big Ted has been with Jacky through those tough school years, happy family holidays, teenage loves and heartbreaks. 2 marriages, 1 divorce, career changes and all of the obstacles life has thrown her, and through it all he was her constant ❤️🧸❤️

Now, 60 birthdays and 60 Christmas's later, it's all getting a bit tough for Big Ted. He is showing his age, even if Jacky is not.

He was not made like us, he hasn't been able to take care of himself. We regenerate our cells, we are constantly refreshing, our cells renew themselves every few days to every decade. That means there has been 6 Jackys to 1 Big Ted, he now needs some help.

I'll be documenting Big Ted's Make Over so we can all see him through his rejuvenation and become ready to take on the whatever the world throws at him next.

To be continued.....

Back pieces and outside legs.

All of my bears are sewn with at least 2 runs of stitching.
If the fabrics are knitted they will have at least 1 one more run too (as well as being stay stitched before construction begins).

You'll see I use a mixture of pins & clips, each has its own benefit.

These videos are posted on my page to give clients, both current and potential, an idea of the care and attention that goes into each bear I make.
However if you are a bear maker and have any questions I'm happy to help.

The pattern I'm using is Ben from FFF printed at 130% (therefore my SA is bigger than if made at 100%).
None of my videos are endorsed by FFF, they are purley to show my clients some of the processes their bears goes through.

Here he is......Robin Bear ❤️

Made in memory of a deeply missed husband 💔 Using his jacket, polo shirt and tie, isn't he gorgeous!

My lovely client and I spent lots of time chatting, ensuring that her vision was my vision.

Robin Bear is a Faux Jacket design. He has arm & hand details, blue eyes and handwriting personalisation.
I used the 'wrong side' of the jacket fabric for his head which gives a lovely matching contrast.
As always, the jacket pockets were used at the back of the bear and collars were used at full size.

❤️🧸Share your memories with me and I'll turn them into a beautiful bear🧸❤️

Pattern used is Ben from FFF printed at 130%. The Faux Jacket element IS NOT part of the pattern, it is an addition I designed.

Sewing & Attaching Ears.

This pattern is Ben from FFF

I do a few extra steps to ensure my ears are smooth, even and attached to the head in a curve.

* This video is not endorsed by FFF, this is just me showing you how I do them.

My Tips...
☆ I sew both ears with the same fabric touching the plate, it seems to give a more consistent shape, probably due to the pressure on the fabrics going in the same direction.
☆ Sew slowly, in a smooth curve, lifting your needle to reposition fabric keeping the stitches in that smooth line.
☆ Trim SA well. If it is a challenging fabric a run of tiny zigzag within the SA (touching the seam) may help.
☆ Push seams out well from inside as you're turning the ear.
☆ Pin edges before stay stitching the ear closed, this will stop any movement of front/back fabrics, which will show later when attached.
☆ Stay stitch the ears to the face within the SA. This keeps them in place when sewing the face to the head back.

Is there anyone who would like me to include a bear made in Memory of their Dad?
I'd hate to miss out someone who'd like to be included 🥺

Have I made a Memory Bear for you in memory of your Dad?

Do you have a photo of you and your Dad that you'd be happy for me to share?

I'd love to showcase a few in a post for Father's Day to honour those Dads no longer with us 💔

If you'd like a photo of you and your Dad to be included, alongside a photo of the bear I made in his memory please let me know.

Thank you,
Carol x

Progress Pictures for Robin Bear...

Footpads

As you can see the head is now sewn into the body. 4 passes with a straight stitch and 2 with a zig zag, ensures it is as secure as is possible.
His base is then sewn in with just as many passes under my needle.

Next was the footpads.

1 was to include the badge from the polo shirt used, the other some of Robin's scanned handwriting from a greeting card.
My Scanned Handwriting Personalisation is done with HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl). I upload, clean and cut the handwriting before then adhering it to the footpad.

The final few stages to get Robin Bear ready for his journey home include adding his polo shirt buttons, stuffing, closing up, eye sculpting, adding the collar from his polo shirt and of course his nose.

Come back later to see him in all his glory ❤️

If you'd like to discuss having your own Memory or Keepsake Bear made to including Scanned Handwriting Personalisation get in touch to discuss your ideas.

The pattern I am using for Robin Bear is Ben from FFF printed at 130%. The Faux Jacket element IS NOT part of the pattern.

Progress Pictures for Robin Bear...

The front and back of Robin Bear have now been sewn together with the arms sandwiched between.

Next stage is to sew the head into the body.
Then I'll be doing the scanned handwriting on the foot pad and inserting them.

The pattern being used is Ben from FFF printed at 130%. The Faux Jacket IS NOT part of the pattern.
