Progress Post #8

Now this beautiful lady is back at home I can share more of her construction with you.
I don't share any progress posts until the bear is home if too much of the finished bear is given away in the photos. My clients will always be the first to see their completed bears.

The last progress post I shared of this bear showed the base being attached.

The next stage is the footpads...

Picture 1 - I work on the footpads with the bear turned right side out.
Picture 2 - I turn one leg out through the base, this leg it is now wrong side out so I can attach the footpad.
Picture 3 - Footpad is pinned in with LOTS of pins.
Picture 4 - I sew the footpad at least twice, the first time with the footpad on the plate then turn it over and sew with the footpad up.
The excess fabric is then trimmed from the seam allowance to ensure a nice smooth seam once turned the right way.
Picture 5 - 1 nice smooth footpad 👌
Picture 6 - Footpads on the finished bear.

Look through the recent posts on my page to see the previous progress posts as well as the finished bear ❤️

The pattern I am using is Ben from FFF at 130%

A lovely review left ❤️

Thank you to everyone who leaves a review after having one of my bears.

They really do help people when they are researching for a maker ❤️🙏

Here is the second bear that arrived home with my client yesterday.

Made in memory of her much missed husband using not only his favourite zipped cardigan, dressing gown and t-shirt, but also 4 ties. 3 of them still in the knot that he tied last time he wore them 💔

This cardigan was always going to be one of my Faux Jacket Bears and the inside of the dressing gown was perfect for the head.
The t-shirt was layered underneath the jacket and the outer fabric of the dressing gown was used for the legs and of course I had to incorporate the big pocket on his leg.
I was asked to use the 1 tie as it was, being worn by the bear and the other 3 were used for accents....snout, ears and footpads 👌

That wasn't all though, I just couldn't NOT do anything else with the other ties. So when making the bear I worked them to keep the original knot in tact and made a few keyfob/bag charms and a hanging decoration. The knots were secured with a few handstitches to make sure they stay in that very sentimental knot.

Pattern used is Ben from FFF made at 130%. The Faux Jacket IS NOT part of the pattern.

My new favourite prep...

These are the footpads of 8 Memory Bears, they are made from a Sheepskin Coat and will be used suede side showing. Therefore, the wool is not needed and just makes the piece thick to work with.
The snouts of these bears are going to be made using the woolen side of the coat, so those have just had a 5mm Seam Allowance taken off (you can just about see one in the top righthand corner).

Do you remember the bear I was making last week with the embroidery that went across the 2 back pieces?
Well here she is....

Made in memory of a much missed Mum using a few of her favourite garments.

If you followed along on the Progress Posts I shared you'll have seen the majority of her planning and construction. However the client is always the first person to see their bear when finished.
So even though you may have given me permission to show progress posts of your bear, I will always wait until they are safely home with you before showing any completed photos.

As you can see the embroidery running across her back worked out beautifully ❤️
It was really worth spending that extra time carefully unpicking the seam to preserve as much of the detail as possible 👌

You'll also notice she has not 1 but 2 pockets incorporated. Both of these were from the flannellette nightshirts. 1 used on an outer leg and the other on a footpad.

My client was absolutely delighted with her and had left a beautiful review on my page within a few hours of their arrival - Yes there's another one to share with you later ❤️
