Perhaps the Best £14.70 You Will Spend on Your Garden

There is a curious thing about Muscari.

If you asked gardeners to list their favourite flowers, many would name tulips, roses, peonies or lilies. Yet take Muscari away and they will be immediately missed.

Perhaps it is because they appear when colour still feels scarce. Perhaps it is their ability to settle into a garden and look as though they have always belonged there. Whatever the reason, few bulbs give so much pleasure for so little outlay.

Which brings me to this collection. We have brought together four distinct varieties at a value price:

Fifteen Muscari armeniacum Marleen, Fifteen Muscari Siberian Tiger, Fifteen Muscari Latifolium, Fifteen Muscari Peppermint. RRP of this collection, with postage, is £26.80. For you, the full collection of SIXTY BULBS is only £14.70 with free delivery -  a saving of 40%.

This year we are offering more than 700 varieties, including over 70 new and newly introduced selections. Alongside these new additions are many of the bulbs our customers return to each year because they have proved reliable in our British gardens over time.

Some bulbs earn their place year after year. Certain narcissus settle in and return without fuss. A good allium can transform the character of your border for weeks. Early crocus can appear when winter still feels as though it has not finished.

Many varieties in this season’s range hold the RHS Recommended: Award of Garden Merit, which remains one of the more useful guides to reliable garden performance.

As ever, we have focused on quality and size throughout the range, selecting bulbs that we believe are worth the space they take up once they flower.

We hope you enjoy looking through the new collection and planning for the season ahead.

There’s a point in the British spring - usually involving damp soil, a cup of tea gone cold, and a slight hesitation when you wonder if you have left it too late for summer planting.

You have not.

But we are close enough now that timing begins to matter.

This is why this isn’t really a “sale.”

It is more a window of opportunity which is still open – just not quite as wide.

Most summer-flowering bulbs - dahlias, lilies, gladioli - would typically have been planted earlier. However, plant your selection from this half-price offer as soon as yours arrive, and our top-sized bulbs will still give you a proper, satisfying display.

Leave it much longer, and you are relying more on hope than timing.

So yes, there is 50% off all summer-flowering bulbs with the code below… but this is not really the point.

What you plant in the next few weeks determines what your garden looks like for the rest of the year.

We have been supplying quality bulbs for over 150 years. Long enough to see the same pattern repeat: a week’s delay becomes two, and suddenly the season has moved on.

Plant now, and by August it will not feel late.

It will simply look well judged.

At this stage, stock moves predictably. At half price, the most popular varieties tend not to wait around.

If you are going to act, this is the moment which makes it worthwhile.

Dahlia tubers can be started now, but make sure this is indoors.

Dahlias are frost-tender and should not be planted outside until all risk of frost has passed during spring where nighttime temperatures don’t dip below 15 degrees Celsius.

Starting your Dahlias indoors allows plants to establish early, resulting in stronger growth and earlier summer blooms.

Make sure before planting up to ensure you have good free-draining compost and a bright, frost-free spot to put your containers.

A little preparation now leads to spectacular colour later in the season.

In many British gardens, May carries a scent no other plant quite matches. Lily of the Valley — cherished in cottage borders for centuries — once filled posies carried through village lanes. Brides chose sprigs for symbolism because Lily of the Valley flowers indicate ‘the start of a new happy life’. Perfumers still chase the purity of its fragrance. Few plants hold such cultural memory with such modest stature. This excellent offer brings two distinguished forms together.

You receive: 8 × Class 1 bare roots of Convallaria ‘Berlin Giant’ and 3 × Class 1 bare roots of the rare Convallaria ‘Majalis Rosea’. Retail price £42.63 with postage. Your bargain price WHILST STOCKS LAST is £18.95 plus FREE delivery. (55% Discount!)

‘Berlin Giant’ earns its name. Taller stems. Broader leaves. Larger white bells held in neat rows; each bloom shaped like fine porcelain. The perfume drifts on cool air — fresh, green, unmistakably spring.

Then comes this scarce hard-to-find variety. ‘Majalis Rosea’ opens in soft blush pink, a gentler echo of the white form. Not loud. Not brash. A stylish variation collectors value and visitors notice.

Some gardeners wonder whether such delicate flowers will endure. Convallaria answers with resilience. Once planted, roots settle deep and return faithfully each year, spreading into generous drifts beneath trees and along shaded paths.

Plant just below the surface in moist, well-drained soil. Allow time. Each spring brings thicker clumps, stronger stems, richer fragrance.

Eleven Class 1 bare roots — selected for size and vigour — offered at exceptional value from the trusted British horticultural house of de Jager.

A small investment now. A lifetime of May fragrance to follow.

Stand back from your border in late May. There may be plenty of colour, yet something feels missing. Your early bulbs are already past their best. Taller stems are flopping into gaps. The once bright shades are fading. Most of us plant for the start of spring. Few plant for the middle of spring.

This is the time for Ranunculus Picotee.

Buds rise on strong stems, tight as small fists. Then layers of petals begin to open. Not slender petals, but dense folds, each edged in deeper colour. Picotee Café shows cream lined with coffee-coloured hues. Picotee Pink holds a clean rose outline around a soft blush. Picotee Orange carries a rich zesty rim along every curve.

Those sumptuous flowers bring a touch of panache to your planting. From a few steps back, your borders now look stylish rather than busy. In a pot by the door, blooms sit upright and self-contained. After rain, petals keep form. Indoors, cut stems last well without collapsing by day three.

You might have wondered whether ranunculi’s are troublesome to grow. Truth is, they ask for little more than sun and sharp drainage. Soak corms briefly before planting. Set claws downward. Keep soil lightly moist while growth establishes. After this, your work is done.

This collection brings 10 corms of each shade, 30 in total, individually bagged and clearly labelled. No muddle once planting begins. When your early spring border begins to thin out, Ranuculus Picotee step forward strong and proud.
