I try not to post anything personal on here, as I don't like to blend work and home.
However, i just want to give a small glimpse into the reality of life as a small business owner.
We have bills to pay. I know, know, don't we all. Most of our income is swallowed by rent, cost of goods, bills etc. If we don't have the income, we can't survive. Whether this is from other businesses not paying their bills on time (*sigh*) which has a knock on effect to the small business owner as well as their suppliers etc, or from a lack of footfall, it doesn't matter. It all results in the same consequence - the business closes.
I am also a one man band. Yes, I do have a few other trusted folk around me that I can call on, but ultimately, the shop is run by me. It is currently the school holidays, so I also have both kids home, which means that a lot of the time I have at least one of them with me, normally both. Therefore, I need to make sure they are fed, watered and happy. Sometimes this may mean I'm a little late, or the little one may try to interrupt when we are talking.
Please be patient. They are children, I am mum. I try not to allow them to be rude, I would appreciate the same courtesy extended to me. Running a business as a working mum is HARD. We are balancing so much. Rudeness can often be enough to tip us over the edge.
