Meet the Designer: Sam Lewis

Creativity has always been at the heart of Sam's career. After discovering a passion for graphic design at a young age, he studied Graphic Design at Norwich University of the Arts, specialising in publishing design.

After joining Schoolblazer in 2024, Sam has combined those design foundations with cutting-edge technology, spending the past two years spearheading our transition from traditional 2D CADs to AI-powered 3D garment visualisation.

By creating hundreds of highly realistic garment visualisations, Sam enables schools to see exactly how their uniform will look long before the first physical sample is produced. It's a technically demanding process, involving accurate colour matching, garment customisation and continuous refinement as products evolve, but the results help schools visualise their new uniform with greater confidence throughout the design journey. It also reduces the need for multiple physical samples, helping to speed up development, reduce costs and minimise waste.

For Sam, the most rewarding part of the role is seeing a design evolve from a flat 2D concept into a finished garment worn with pride by pupils.

It's a great example of how creativity, technology and innovation are helping Schoolblazer redefine the future of school uniform design.

At Boundary Oak School, the uniform has been thoughtfully designed to grow with its pupils. A distinctive plaid features throughout the collection, appearing across different garments as pupils progress through the school. Yesterday, members of our Buying Team visited London Textile Fair, the UK's premier B2B event for fashion fabrics, apparel accessories and textile innovation.

Bringing together international textile manufacturers, suppliers and industry buyers, the fair provides an invaluable opportunity to explore the latest fabric developments, performance innovations and emerging trends shaping the future of the industry.

For our Buying Team, visits like these are an essential part of the product development process. They provide the opportunity to meet with mills, discuss new fabric technologies and discover the latest fabrics, trims, colours and sustainable material options. Every conversation and product sample helps us continue to refine and improve our uniform and sportswear collections, ensuring we deliver the highest quality products for our schools.

Meet the Buyer: Kim Webster

From joining Schoolblazer as a Buying Intern in 2023 while studying Fashion Buying with Merchandising, to returning in May 2025 as an Assistant Buyer, Kim has developed a passion for one of the most technical aspects of product development - fabric.

Working across both Schoolblazer and Limitless, Kim manages the journey from the initial fabric concept through to the finished garment, ensuring every fabric meets the demanding standards required for schoolwear and sportswear.

The process starts with researching market trends and competitor products to understand where the market is heading. From there, Kim works closely with fabric mills to develop suitable options, reviewing everything from fibre composition to handle, performance and cost before selecting fabrics for testing.

From there, every fabric undergoes extensive mill and in-house testing to ensure it is suitable for the schoolwear market. This includes assessing colour fastness, abrasion resistance for woven fabrics, pilling performance for knitted fabrics, dimensional stability after repeated washing, fabric weight and overall durability. For garments destined for the Australian market, UV protection testing is also carried out to ensure they meet the required sun-safe standards.

Colour accuracy is another critical stage of the process. Multiple lab dips are reviewed to ensure every production run achieves the correct shade before the approved fabric is manufactured into sample garments. These samples are then subjected to repeated wash testing - often up to 40 washes - to ensure they continue to perform and retain their appearance throughout the life of the garment.

One of Kim's recent projects involved managing the transition of 10 core fabrics to a new mill, including the fabrics used in our midlayers and training pant linings. The challenge was ensuring the new fabrics looked identical to the existing range while delivering the same - or even better - performance.

It's this combination of technical expertise, attention to detail and commitment to quality that helps ensure every Schoolblazer and Limitless garment is made to perform throughout its lifetime.
