Not necessarily…

You could choose a lovely, and terrifically simple, t-shirt pattern and pair it with a cool, crisp cotton yarn for a quick summer knit you will wear for years.

Do you even need a new pattern? Nope. Have a sift through your collection and choose a jumper pattern that suited you, knit that with short sleeves!

Not confidant in choosing a yarn other than the one specified, or need a little guidance on pattern adaptation? Head on over and ask for some of the Project Disaster (avoidance) Service :)

Knitting and Crochet Summer School are not affected and will run as planned. The door will be locked, please knock loudly and I will let you in :)

Our little, but growing, haberdashery corner in Oswestry.

Full of threads (hand dyed silk for embroidery, Fil Au Chinois cocoons for hand stitching and lace making, wool and nylon for darning, cotton for Sashiko), linen and h**p swatches for stitching onto, chalk pencils for marking, and linen tapes for neat edges.

There are a few other bits and bobs as well, and other things get added now and then.

Today we had a top of Daruma Sashiko threads, needles, leather thimbles and pre-marked cloths in readiness for our next Sashiko Sew-Cial and also for the workshops we will be running for Kaizen in The Parade Shops Shrewsbury in August.

We have had a huge restock of Eco-Cotton. An absolutely gorgeous hand dyed and ethical cotton spun perfectly to make working with it a joy (no splitting) and wearing it fabulous as it doesn't sag. So soft that you can wear it next to your skin so it's also great for baby clothes, blankets and face cloths. New colours on the shelves in both shops And online. Summer hooking and knitting is looking wonderful!

Oh yum! From dye pot to shelf in 24 hours! The hot weather may be a trial for many but when it comes to getting wool dried, it's fabulous! That's all of our Biffle 4 Ply dyed. There is no more. The best British Bluefaced Leicester fleeces, double sorted and worsted spun for extra slinkiness and shine!

It is baking hot and startlingly bright out there already, but the Oswestry shop remains a little oasis of shady cool.

Even Becca has to admit it is possibly a little too warm to work with 100% wool, but we have cotton yarn, and wool blends with plant fibres, which are much cooler to work with.

The Shrewsbury shop Eco Lush, a bamboo/cotton 4 ply, which Oswestry doesn’t have, and Oswestry has West Yorkshire Spinners Elements which is a DK with 60% Lyocell.

You can always pop in for a little respite, and start planning your next project for when the weather breaks :)

A little extra stitching practice ahead of our first Sashiko Sew-cials on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

We’ll be spending 3 glorious hours stitching our chosen patterns. We will work through a variety of grid and circle based patterns, and give ourselves over to the rhythm of the stitches.

You’ll get a fair dose of the history behind this form of stitching, and why it is important to know about it.

A few places still available on both days. Two other dates available in August. Book via the website or through either shop.
