Spent the day in Galle Fort today. The Fort has stood for four centuries. Generations of Portuguese,Dutch &English traders -following the sea lanes of Arab merchants, have lived and died in the fort.
Within the 36ha a grid of narrow roads is lined with Dutch and British colonial houses adapted to tropical living with colonnaded verandas & ornate gables.
My friend knows & loves Sri Lanka well and suggested we meet up at the very stylish Galle Fort Hotel. Again it’s the beautiful interiors that I have fallen in love with. Not to mention the gorgeous ‘Lime & Soda’ mock tails they love to serve in Sri Lanka, very superior to that of the same name in the UK!!

Decided for today’s post to concentrate on the interiors. Today we have driven out of Tea County down to the Yala National Park ( in the south east of the county) to do a safari and hopefully spot a leopard 🐆 or two.
These are some shots of our safari style lodge plus a couple of the restaurant. Very relaxed, but very comfortable.
We are staying at the gorgeous Cinnamon Wild in Yala in a lodge within the National Park. From 6.30pm we have to have a guard es**rt us between our lodge and the restaurant & bar block, as we are literally in the jungle and apparently elephants 🐘 , wild boar 🐗 and snakes 🐍 can be roaming the paths.
This is the second Cinnamon group hotel that we have stayed in this trip and can highly recommend them to anyone planning a trip to Sri Lanka. Great locations, stylish interiors, fabulous food and exemplary customer service!!!!

Literally just walking through another tea-field and we came across this very friendly & jolly group of tea-picking ladies. They immediately took off their picking sack to give me and offered me a lesson 😂.
It’s incredibly hard, heavy work in the constant hot sun 🥵 . Think I would have gotten the sack as they are so quick.

The Temple of the Tooth is Sri Lanka’s holiest Buddhist shrine and houses the venerated tooth of the Buddha. It was smuggled to Sri Lanka in the hair of a princess from Orissa in the 4th century AD.
I was amazed at the amount of visitors all dressed in white (men, women & children) who had come to worship and make offerings to the Buddha. There were many flower stalls outside to purchase floral offerings.

The Dambulla Cave Temples (a quintet of caves) also known as the ‘Caves of Infinite Buddhas’ are known for their elaborately decorated interiors, which incorporate 160+ statues, many etched into the natural rock over a thousand years ago. Plus there are more than 2000 sqm of ceiling and wall murals, most of which date from the 15-18th centuries. The cave temples are another Sri Lankan UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Enjoyed the amazing Tasting Menu at Nathan Outlaw’s New Road Restaurant in Port Isaac last night!! 11 courses over 3 hours of fish 🐟 heaven. This is a photo of the So**ed element and is Dover Sole, Parsnip, Onion & Chilli…..I could have eaten a really large plateful, so delicious!!
Really lovely warm relaxed atmosphere with super knowledgeable staff regarding provenance of the ingredients and the cooking of the dishes. Enjoyed some really beautiful Cornish wines too.
