Why are we celebrating the Market Charter?
For 800 years, markets have been at the heart of Nuneaton.
In 1226, a Market Charter was granted that gave Nuneaton the right to hold a regular market. That charter helped establish the town as a place where people could trade, meet, share ideas and build livelihoods.
Eight centuries later, markets continue to play an important role in our town centre. While much has changed since 1226, the principle remains the same: bringing people together.
That's why we're celebrating.
Charter Day isn't just about looking back at history. It's about recognising the businesses, artists, community groups, charities and residents who continue to shape Nuneaton today.
Join us on Saturday as we celebrate 800 years of market heritage and the people who keep our town centre alive.
Date: Saturday 13th June
Time: 9am - 4pm
Location: Nuneaton Town Centre
