Good afternoon all,

I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying your weekend so far.

It has been a while since I have given any updates on here, and I thought it was about time I did. So here is what I have been up to over the last few months -

Website: I have been creating a website, slowly...very slowly, it is not particularly where my skills lie !! But I am doing it, and I am pleased with the look and feel, so far. It will have news and updates, fundraising, and I will be selling things on there, both direct sales and from other websites (affiliate sales - This means you can buy things from Amazon, Waterstones etc, and a percentage of that sale will go to the book Place to buy more books for Children at no extra cost to you, I hasten to add) there will be "coming soon" features, such as a podcast, fiction subscription to name a few things.

Grants: What a minefield this is, a world of small print and loopholes, but I am making progress and will be keeping you up to date on here and the website.

Fundraising: growing a Penny A Page profile, ready for further fundraising. Thanks to Book Club, Beeston member, Lydia Townsend for donating her time and creating this. I love them. Watch this space and other places for this logo and details of how you can help.

Property: I am still searching daily for the right property. Somewhere to sell books and book lovers gifts and to use as a distribution centre for FREE children's books, and an event space too. The Book Place is on a tight budget, as initially, I will be funding this but I am not despairing, as I know the right place is out there, waiting for us.

BookEnds: last but by no means least. I have been, with the help of The Book Club, Beeston members been compiling a weekly book magazine. It features book reviews from the Book Club, Beeston meet-ups, new books, books in the media, book events, and much more. If you haven't asked for a copy, please do. This will be changing format soon. It will always be free to current members/followers of the Book Place and The Book Club, Beeston, up until the 31st May 2025. Anyone signing up after that will pay a subscription fee, and all the profits will go to raising more money for the Book Place to distribute books to children for FREE.

Thank you for sticking with me and The Book Place and for following this page, and your continued support.

Happy reading,
Kirsty

Life on our planet as you've never seen it before

A team of astronauts in the International Space Station collect meteorological data, conduct scientific experiments and test the limits of the human body. But mostly they observe. Together they watch their silent blue planet, circling it sixteen times, spinning past continents and cycling through seasons, taking in glaciers and deserts, the peaks of mountains and the swells of oceans. Endless shows of spectacular beauty witnessed in a single day.

Yet although separated from the world they cannot escape its constant pull. News reaches them of the death of a mother, and with it comes thoughts of returning home. They look on as a typhoon gathers over an island and people they love, in awe of its magnificence and fearful of its destruction.

The fragility of human life fills their conversations, their fears, their dreams. So far from earth, they have never felt more part - or protective - of it. They begin to ask, what is life without earth? What is earth without humanity?
Congratulations to her.

Good evening all,

I hope you are well.

I have had a rather busy day and have been toing and froing about doing this. I mention it at the The Book Club, Beeston meet-up on Monday afternoon and then second guessed and doubted myself.

I am absolutely useless at asking for help but then I remember this is not for me, it is for the children and fellow book lovers but here goes. As many of you know, I started a market stall in August, to give Free books away for children and to raise more money, to be able to buy books and distribute them especially to children, that cannot afford their own. (I will happily donate to adults, who may not be able to afford their own too but focussed on children)

I have had the market stall, I tried the pop-up shop and now for phase 3, I want to open a pop-up shop in Beeston. I have tried for other properties, cafes, shops, the council etc..but nothing is suitable and so, I have decided the only way to do this, is to raise funds, to be able to open a shop, short term and pay rent and rates etc. and here is where I need your help, please.

I have everything I need, fixtures wise to open tomorrow. I have enough books, although will look for extra book donations.

Each children's book, I and the lovely volunteers from The Book Club, Beeston, are all gift wrapped. I feel that being able to read and give books is a gift and so I will continue this.

Here is the Justgiving link. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/apennyapage

As, you will see, I am asking for A penny, a page. Of course, less is gratefully received, as is more. I understand you may not be able to donate and if that is the case, I would greatly appreciate it, if you could please share this link for me. That too would be appreciated and invaluable.

I shall leave you to have a look now.
Thank you for taking the time to take a look.

Happy looking, happy sharing, happy donating and most importantly, happy reading 📚

Thank you so very much,
Kirsty

Good afternoon all,

I hope you are having a fabulous weekend, so far.

I have spent the weekend, searching for a new venue and creating a crowd funding appeal for the bigger picture, next year.

I am nothing, if not determined to find a new home for The Book Place, so that I can open for at least the 4 weeks of December, so that you can buy books and book gifts for Christmas, for your favourite book lovers and maybe a cheeky purchase/gift for yourself. WIth that in mind, I am now going to spend the rest of the weekend creating, new products, from bookmarks, stickers, pop sockets, badges, pictures and more....watch this space. If you would like to suggest any products or sayings you would like to see on products, do let me know..photo's to follow.
For now, I shall just share a picture of my little helper/The Book Place mascot...meet Tinkerbell.

I hope you have a great weekend. What ever you are doing, stay safe, have fun and

I feel rather bereft and flat today, with the fact that The Book Place did not happen.

It confirms to me even more, how much I want and need and I am determined to have a book shop, a community bookshop, for the good of everyone, including myself.

I missed giving away children's books, which I will always endeavour to giftwrap and give out for FREE. The look on their faces is immeasurable.

I am sure i do not need to tell you, that books are an absolute joy. They create for me, a happy space and I will create a happy space for others too.

Thank goodness, I have a Book Club meet up tonight, 6-8 at The Crown Inn, Beeston. That should fill a void..for now, anyway.

Happy reading to you all.
