Cunard (1896 – 1965) was a renowned beauty and remarkable woman who used her inherited wealth to aid various radical causes. In 1928 she set up the Hours Press in France and published four collections of her own poetry. Among its earliest publications was a small collection of poems, Whorescope, by the then unknown Samuel Beckett.

Robert Bloomfield was the prolific and popular author of The Farmer's Boy, which sold an unprecedented 26,000 copies in the three years following its publication in 1800. His work was also praised by William Wordsworth and John Clare, who called him the "English Theocritus."
