I just felt I needed to share this article about research on the fibres used to make our clothes.
We often assume that natural fibres- eg cotton, linen, wool are better for the planet (and also us, as we wear them
close to our skin).
But the research cautions that us consumers need more information available to us about all fabrics that are made into our clothes.
Indeed, many natural fibres may have been subject to pesticides, dyes, fire retardant forever chemicals.
So this strengthens the argument for repairing the clothes we already have. And if we do buy new, investing in clothes that will last and made from organic fibres & Oeko-Tex (which means the fabric has been tested for harmful substances and found to be below specific levels).
Two garments made from the same fibre may have very different environmental footprints depending on how they were processed and finished.
