My new Braided Beanie knitted hat design.
You have shown me so much warmth and kindness, support and motivation on this knitting adventure of mine. I want to do something to let you know it’s so very much appreciated and decided to release it as a FREE pattern. See it as a Christmas Gift from me to you.

I have set up a newsletter mailing list and subscribers will be sent the Braided Beanie Pattern on Christmas Day (there is a signup link in my bio) If mailing lists aren’t your thing, the pattern will go up on my Ravelry after the Christmas break.
It’s my most comprehensive pattern to date with sizes for all the family and instructions for knitting flat or in the round. I think you will love it.

We had frost this morning ❄️ The first of the season, so tights and vests, hats and gloves have been dug out of the backs of draws and the bottoms of baskets.
When it comes to cold weather, I’m all about the layers. Summer clothes can turn into winter clothes when layered up - cotton dresses with long-sleeved tees, denim shorts with stripy leggings, bloomers with ribbed tights 💕

Pattern - Sammy Sunsuit, Yarn - Wasabi

I’ve spent the day working, faffing, tidying, cleaning, running errands and I’ve now ran out of time to think up a smart/ witty/ deep n’ meaningful caption to this picture because Great British Bake Off is about to start.
I can’t believe it’s coming to an end. It’s been a good series.
Who are you rooting for? (We are all wanting Rahul to win, right!?)

I made a new hat. FAR from perfect, but I’ve finally made something (it’s been a while).
I’ve mentioned on here a few times about my mojo going AWOL. It has yet to fully return (will it ever return!?) For a while I was super cross with myself, why couldn’t I shake off this funk? Everything life wise is ok, yet there is this low-key crappy feeling hanging about. This meant I was feeling doubly rubbish: the initial crappy feels, then the crappy feels about feeling crappy, you know!?
I decided not to fight it and just go with the flow, find something to do that just felt, doable even if it wasn’t what I thought I should being doing (setting and achieving goals to obtain my dream life where I’m swimming in abundance). Instead I would flick through my mental filing cabinet labelled ‘stuff I kinda like doing’ until I would come across something that felt ok to do (like make a pie or knit a little swatch or read a chapter). Interestingly when I stopped mentally arguing with myself, some insight came. I have a fairly good understanding of the root of my current funk, not entirely sure how to tackle it just yet but I’m sure it will come too.

White chocolate cheesecake for our pud today.

Also, I’ve cast-on a new knitting project today so hopefully there will be something other than food to show you soon.

Honestly, I’ve struggled to knit over the last few weeks. With the Bertie Bloomers now out, I currently don’t have any patterns in the works. Lots of ideas I can’t narrow down. I’ve been pondering whether to stick to baby patterns or move into children and/ or adults (I want to do it all).
It’s hard making decisions. Wanna make them for me?

The Bertie Bloomers Knitting Pattern is now available 🎉

This is my 9th published pattern and I still take the pictures on a little white side table in my living room with a 10 year old basic Canon. When I started out I thought I needed fancy lightening, cameras and all that. I would shy away from showing my basic set-up but I’m now proud of what I have achieved with the simple things I have around. Of course I would like to develop my photography skills and a shiny new camera would be great. But you really can start where you’re currently at, with the things you have around.

I’ve popped a link for the pattern in my bio if your interest xx

Limbo week.
Not the summer holidays, yet neither are we back in the swing of school days either with the children not back until tomorrow and Thursday. So I’ve been filling the void with some baking.
Bread, biscuits & cakes. I think I’ve covered all bases!?

Have you ever looked at your yarn / fabric stash and done a quick mental tot-up of how much it all cost? I try hard to keep my stash low, but still.
My downfall is I get overly precious about using special materials (by special I mean expensive) and I have to save them for just the ‘right’ project. But often nothing feels ‘right’ enough and gorgeous supplies get left in boxes, in cupboards.
Yesterday I went for it! I cut into a length of Tana Lawn I’ve had for ages and sewed up and quick and easy everyday dress for Pippa. Most definitely not a special project, will probably be stained by the end of the week but Pip is so happy with it as am I.
Special can be for everyday too. Right!?

At the weekend I took my three children on a mini trip up north to visit some art galleries that have been on my hit list for a while.
It confirmed something I’ve been wondering for a while, that I’m going to be a painter. Not right now but in the future, I’m going to paint pictures. I’ve always wanted to paint. At school I loved maths and art. The points from my A in A-Level art is what carried me to uni (my other grades were pants compared). Though I didn’t study Art, I studied Philosophy instead (strangely a subject I had zero experience in; my secondary school barely had enough students and funds to run the basic subjects). I didn’t peruse fine art because I didn’t have the confidence. I didn’t have the strength to deal with the criticism and in all honesty I thought I would be called out for being above my station. Though it didn’t matter as I felt like that anyways. I kept myself small, hushing those feelings of possibility and potential that quietly bubble up. Who am I to think I can have something other than what I have right now? And how do I even go about getting it? Both are things I’m currently working on.
(Soz if a bit too deep and meaningful for a Tuesday)

Things I’ve achieved so far this week 👉🏼
1. Completely emptying the laundry basket (it lasted an hour, but still). 2. Finishing a knitting pattern that’s been lingering for far too long. 3. Bathed both the dogs (they smelt) 4. Sewed myself a new top (👆🏼). 5. Going to the supermarket only 3 times (children eat SO much).

Guess which one I’m most proud of?
