I’ve just opened these snap cards and the illustrations are absolutely amazing - I’m actually contemplating framing a few for the girls’ bedroom! It’s probably the most beautiful pack of snap I’ve ever seen and the perfect stocking filler at £5.99 a pack!

As we love the coast here at SeashellBooks I chose the Under the Sea ones but there are a huge range of different themes to suit all interests.

The Usborne Book of Planet Earth 🌍
This is one of the books I packed for our travels and we’ve looked at it most days, constantly discovering something new to pore over.
The concept of the book is that it takes children on a tour of some of the most spectacular places on Earth, showing the wonder and diversity of our natural world. You can dive to the deepest, darkest parts of the oceans, climb soaring mountain peaks with yak herders in the Himalayas or wade through the mangrove swamps in Australia.

At the front of the book there’s a map of the world showing where all the continents and oceans are and then each chapter focusses on one continent and explores some of its fascinating natural features.

Children will learn where narwhals live, how tornadoes form, what causes volcanoes to erupt, why wildebeest stampede and what earthquakes are.

It’s an excellent book to teach children about the beautiful world we live in and is great for armchair travelling too! A perfect gift for any nature lover or explorer.

🚐 Seashell Books is on the move! 🚐
Here we are in our van (with a surfboard squished above our heads) waiting to board the ferry to Spain!

A very rare opportunity has come up for my husband to take a sabbatical from work and because Seashell Books is all online at the moment and I can work from anywhere, we have decided to grab it with both hands and turn our 2020 around a bit! We are going to spend the next couple of months living in and exploring a few of our favourite places in Europe and a couple that we’ve always wanted to visit.
Seashell Books will continue as normal, albeit with some slightly different backdrops to my photos and stories! I’ll be continuing to recommend books for your children and advise on presents as well as books to support schoolwork (just drop me a DM.) As we’re returning to for a while, I’ll also be sharing books and resources that my children are enjoying, as well as what I’m currently reading.
You can continue to order from my website (link in the bio) where the postage is £3.50 no matter how many books you order. Alternatively, customers who are local to North Tyneside can add their requests to my bulk orders, for free delivery mid December when we are back home and out of quarantine!

We love making Halloween a special occasion in our house but know that it might be a little different this year than in previous years. I’m hoping that, like the other special events that happened during lockdown, the effort involved in doing things differently make it just as (if not more) special than usual.

There’s currently a plan in our local area for a pumpkin trail, so the children can still dress up and go for a walk in the dark to spot them all, before having some treats back at home.

I’ve shared some books for Halloween on my stories today (and in highlights) but this one deserves its own space on the grid.

An endearing tale about a ghost dog called Knitbone who wants to reconnect with his beloved owner, Winnie, whilst stopping dastardly thieves from stealing their family home, Starcross Hall. Can the spirits of Starcross, a gigglesome gang of ghostly animals, help Winnie save her home?

A couple of months ago I was lucky enough to attend a live event with .claire the author of the Knitbone Pepper series. Claire talked about how, although the story starts with the death of Knitbone and Winnie’s deep sadness, it’s really a story about everlasting, unconditional friendship. The humorous treatment of a serious subject helps to make the concept of death and the idea of ghosts safe for children. It’s also a great book for how to cope with a ‘new normal’ (very timely) and would be a good read for any children who might have lost a pet.

Death can be a really difficult subject to talk about, especially for little ones who might struggle to understand the concept and their feelings about it.

This amazing new lift the flap book is an incredible tool for children aged 3-8 to answer their questions about death and to help them to understand how it is a part of the circle of life. Using animal characters to explore the emotions and facts around death, this is perfect for children trying to process the loss of a loved one or pet, or simply trying to understand how the world works.
To be honest I think all ages would find the gentle, friendly explanations about grief and death useful and the opening this gives to have frank discussions about the subject.
