29th of July is sacred to Thor, the Norse god of Thunder.
This time of year thunder storms can seem to pop up spontaneously reflecting the volatile temper of the god. He is said to be fierce eyed with red hair and beard and carries his magical hammer Mjolnir.
The oak tree is sacred to Thor, but I wouldn't shelter under one during a thunderstorm as they seem to attract lightning.
Thor is a god of fertility of humans, flocks and fields and he protects against malicious forces.

28th of July is the Archangel Uriel's Day.
Uriel is the angel of music, prophesy and wisdom. He inspires creative ideas, composition and also helps you to recognise dangerous situations.
Uriel stands at the north in the protective circle and is also in charge of electricity and thunderstorms.
Uriel can help you get over past mistakes and make amends for your past actions as he is also the angel of repentance. He will also help you learn from past mistakes and as the angel of transformation, help you to turn mistakes into positive lessons.
As the angel of intuition and artistic inspiration, he can help you overcome blockages and inspire you to flourish and find your own way of expressing your artistic ideas.

27th of July is Finland's National Sleepy Head Day.
Today it is traditional to wake up the last person in the household who is still in bed, by splashing them with water. Or alternately carrying them to the nearest pond, river or the sea and throwing them in.
The city of Naantali throws a celebrity or city official into the sea each year. Every Mayor will have been thrown in at least once - I can think of a few politicians I could nominate!

26th of July is the saint day of Saints Anne and St Joachim. They were the parents of the Virgin Mary and are the patron saints of all grandparents.
St Joachim is also the patron of cabinet makers and linen traders.
St Anne of child carers, old-clothes dealers (charity shops I presume), seamstresses, lace makers and for some reason stable hands.

25th of July is the feast of Papa Ogou the warrior lwa who it a blacksmith and patron of all iron workers. He stands for courage, strength and victory.
He is known as a great lover of women, one praise song tells how he worked hard and went without food so that he could buy a gift for a woman he was courting.
Ogou is a great tacticion so he is invoked in any kind or battle to help you win..
His symbols include swords, machetes, implements made of iron, iron chain and especially a cockerel shaped out of iron.
His colours are red, black green and navy blue - his followers wear something red to invoke him. He likes cooked meat, particularly beef and pork, a stew with beans is a favourite, also bananas, mangos and dark rum.
Serve his meal in a large bowl with a rock in the middle. Present it to the four directions then give to Ogou. Light a candle by it, or even in the bowl.
A piece of iron blessed by Ogou is a special charm against traffic accidents.

24th of July is the day of St Christina the Astonishing.
She is one of my favourite saints and is the patron saint of millers and those with mental illnesses.
She was born around1150 ce and worked as a cow herder. While she was in her 20's she suffered some sort of massive seizure and appeared to have died. But while everyone was in church for her funeral, with the coffin standing before the altar, Christina suddenly came back to life and sat up. She then flew up to the roof of the church and few around the rafters declaring she couldn't stand the smell of sinful people. She said that God had given her the choice of remaining in Heaven or returning to Earth to free souls from Purgatory.
She then embarked on a life of suffering. She bathed in frozen rivers, threw herself into fires and suffered terrible tortures while uttering frightful screams and cries, but then would emerge whole and unharmed.
One of her 'favourite' things seemed to be throwing herself into the local mill race and being carried down to the mill wheel which 'whirled her around in a manner frightful to behold'.
However her strange lifestyle seemed to have done her no harm as she lived to be around 74 and died today in 1224ce.

23rd of July is the feast of Neptune/Poseidon.
Neptune is the god of springs and wells as well as the seas and oceans. He is looked on as commanding all sources of water - so that includes rain too.
He and Minerva were said to have built the first chariot, so horses and horse racing are also sacred to Neptune.
The Romans celebrated this festival by sleeping out of doors in temporary shelters and cooking beef to share with the God. In other words camping out and having a barbeque.
Mind you in the UK stick to doing this in your own garden at the mo, as everywhere is tinder dry, and you do not want to start any kind of wild fire.
In fact today might be a good time to try an old spell to bring rain:
Take a bowl of water outside, dip a broom in it and flick water towards the sky, so that the water falls back in droplets.
This is known as a 'sympathetic' spell as you are creating artificial rain and encouraging the sky to follow suit and produce real rain.

22nd of July is sacred to Concordia the Roman Goddess of peace and agreement and also marital harmony.
She helps people reach a happy compromise which suits them both. Concordia is also the goddess of forgiveness allowing you to let go of past hurts and slights and move on with a tranquil mind.
Today is also St Mary Magdalene's day. She is the patron saint of perfumiers, apothecaries, hairdressers, tanners and glove makers. She is referred to in the earliest scripts as 'a dresser of women's hair' which may be a euphemism for pr******te, which makes her the patron of pr******tes too.
One of her symbols is a red egg, which represents re-birth or resurrection.

21st of July Happy Birthday to the Aten!
The Aten is the Sun Disc and in ancient Egypt this was originally thought of as a manifestation of the Sun God, Ra. But under the influence of the pharaoh Akhenaten, the Aten became not only the primary deity worshipped in Egypt, but the only deity permitted to be worshipped.
This is believed to be the earliest form of monotheism.
Akhenaten was fanatical in his devotion to the Aten and insisted that all his court took up its worship. He ordered all other temples to be closed, putting all the priests and priestesses of other deities out of work, and even created a new capital city out in the desert, Amarna.
However the worship of the Aten did not outlive Akhenaten and when he died, his new city was abandoned, the old temples re-opened and an attempt was made to erase Akhenaten from Egyptian history.
Even his children changed their names, Tutankhaten becoming Tutankhamun one of the most famous pharaohs of ancient Egypt.

20th of July is the Lithuanian Festival of Wreaths, in honour of the goddess Laima.
She is goddess of love, luck, fate, beauty, magic and marriage.
Today lovers gather flowers to make into wreaths or chaplets for each other. This is said to confirm their love and bind them together.
If you are seeking love, then make a flower circle for yourself and when you wear it, ask Laima to steer a suitable lover in your direction.
