👋 Hiya, we’ve had loads of new followers recently, so it seems like a good time to introduce myself.
I’m Iona, owner of Crafty Wee Birdie, an independent gift shop on The Brae, just at the bottom of Nairn High Street in the Scottish Highlands. I opened the shop almost 11 years ago now. I’m a Nairn lass, but my husband, our two boys and I were living in Aberdeen before moving home when the opportunity to take on the shop came along.
The shop is packed with lovely things from Scottish makers, artists and designers, alongside a few carefully chosen brands from further afield. Supporting small creative businesses has always been a big part of what Crafty Wee Birdie is about. You’ll often find me in the shop, but if I’m not there, chances are I’m at home ordering stock, doing paperwork, updating the website or making our tartan bracelets. There are loads of other wee jobs that come with running a small business!
Thankfully, I don’t do it all myself. Kimberley is a huge part of Crafty Wee Birdie too and you’ll often find her holding the fort in the shop. I’d be completely lost without her!
