It's not just honeybees that sometimes needs a helping hand!

This beautiful bumblebee obviously smelt our honey room, as it was on the window this morning. I easily scooped it up, and as it wasn't moving much I thought I'd try give her a bit of honey.

Safe to say she lapped it up! Even bumblebees love our heather honey!!

We are down at at their open farm day, tomorrow 10-3pm!

While we’re obsessed with all things honeybee (and rightly so 🍯🐝), it’s easy to forget—they’re just one species here in the UK… out of over 270 species of bees!

Globally, there are only 5 species of honeybee, but more than 20,000 species of bees in total.

And here’s the thing 👇

It’s not the honeybees that need the most help—it’s our bumblebees and solitary bees that are really struggling.

Take this incredible little species, often nicknamed the “witch bee”… famously seen “riding broomsticks” in this brilliant clip from David Attenborough.

They might not make honey, but they are vital pollinators—and without them, our ecosystems (and food supply) would look very different.

So next time you think “save the bees”… think beyond the hive 🐝

Not too long now and we will be back at Whelprigg House with St John's Hospice!!

We will have our live bees in our observation hive and plenty of local tasty honey to try! Don't miss it! :)

Their specialists cover Jewellery, Silver, Art, Figurines, Glass, Ceramics and more.
Nestled between Casterton and Barbon is the delightful Whelprigg House - only open to the public three times a year.
🍯 We will also be joined by our supporter Cross Apiary with his hive demo and delicious local honey to try.
🪴There will also be a chance to buy some plants from our hospice plant stall.
🍰 And of course there will be cake! Please join us for a gorgeous day out in the beautiful house and grounds, with plenty to see, taste, discover and enjoy.

Kendal Farmers’ Market returns to the Market Place this Friday 13th March, 9am–3pm.

As always, you’ll find over 30 brilliant local producers setting up for the day – proper food, grown, reared, baked, brewed and made by the people behind the stall. No middlemen, no mystery ingredients… just good things to take home for the weekend.

And with Mother’s Day on Sunday, it’s not a bad place to quietly sort a little something thoughtful while you’re here – whether that’s cheese, chocolate, flowers, a bottle of something nice… or simply the ingredients for a very good Sunday lunch.

Of course, markets aren’t just about Mother’s Day either – they’re about catching up, filling the fridge, and supporting the farmers and small producers who keep this whole thing ticking along.
