Life lately:
A forced slower pace this August due to the many heatwaves, the school holidays and sad life events.

Production is a fraction of what it should be for August, and there is much less flowering on the farm compared to last year, when we were growing on a 1/5 of what we have now.

I made the tough decision to stop our wholesale availability a few weeks ago and have reduced our retail availability massively so I don’t have to keep saying ‘no sorry!’ to requests from you lovely lot.

Who knew that one person can’t do it all?! 😂

A busy rest of August and September coming up with several DIY weddings to cut for. Massively grateful for collaboration with other local flower farms over the next few weeks, which is going to help take the stress away whilst we wait for the much needed rain and our dahlias to get a wiggle on!

Going into what feels like our 1 billionth heatwave this season and we still have flowers coming out of the flower field… just!

Much less than there should be for August, but there are definitely some superstars soldiering on - Zinnia, strawflower, erynigium, scented herbs and lovely grasses to name a few.

These bunches full of all the finest on the flower farm can be found Zen Rebel Garden Cafe on Midsomer Norton High Street.

They also double up as great bunches for drying! Just one fresh drop this week, so grab them quick as they sold out last week.

Flower farm bunches (as well as buckets of flowers and luxury bouquets!) can also be ordered via the online flower shop for collection from the flower farm - Tuesday - Saturday (links in bio ⬆️ )

We will now be closed for new orders for the rest of this week. The flowers are tired, as am I.

Last week, over 1500 stems were cut from the flower field - which is incredible for us and considering the crazy weather we have all been dealing with.

I am going to spend the time catching a breath and concentrate on planting out successions, deadheading, cutting back etc. as well as spending some time with my kids!

Pre-booked orders will obviously be fulfilled ☺️

A whole lot of buckets of flowers left the flower farm this week and it’s not over yet as we have Shepton Sunday Market this weekend.

Many stems have been cut for florists, destined for weddings and other delights, and for DIY event buckets destined for a wedding in Bath, an engagement party in Frome and for a surprise 60th birthday party.

The weather is continuing to be a challenge and I am now on damage control, concentrating on what is thriving, accepting the fate of some and keeping everything crossed for the successions and second flushes of perennials later in the season.

Alongside the usual cutting flowers to order this week, we’ve finished with two solid days of visitors from Bath, Wells, Midsomer Norton and much further afield, for pick-your-own flowers and flower farm tours.

Flower farming is quite a solitary thing to do, so I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the chats, questions and discussions. We covered everything from starting a flower farm in the current climate, how to support british flowers, soil health, how potent the muck spreading was (it’s a good vintage!) and the best flowers for drying. As usual I was rubbish at remembering to take photos, so apologies to those that didn’t get snapped!

Our PYO flowers is taking a little break for now, so we can fulfill this week’s orders for ‘teacher thank you’ flowers, DIY weddings and for florists - Hoping to release more dates very soon!
