JUST ANOTHER PERFECTLY NORMAL WEEK AT SWEETS & TREATSβ¦ ππ¬π
Yes. That is a pair of trainers.
Yes. They were literally left in the middle of our shop floor.
No. We don't know why.
We'll come back to those.
Because, quite frankly, they seem a fitting end to the week we've just had.
It started with the electricity going off. β‘
Darren was running Sweets & Treats while Jenny was at her other job just down the road.
No electricity isn't ideal when your shop contains tills, card machines, fridges, freezers and one VERY substantial ice cream machine.
At some point Darren mentioned that he needed batteries.
Jenny somehow interpreted this as:
The ice cream machine needs batteries.
She did briefly wonder how a large commercial ice cream machine was going to manage on a packet of AAs.
Apparently she didn't wonder hard enough.
Darren eventually looked at her as though she'd grown another head.
βWhy would the ice cream machine need batteries?β
They were for the till.
Obviously.
Meanwhile, Middlewich had established its own emergency communication network.
A customer walked into Jenny's other workplace carrying a Sweets & Treats bag.
Jenny immediately asked:
βHow's Darren doing?β
And received the reassuring update:
βHe's OK. The card machine is still working!β
Excellent.
Thank you, Middlewich Emergency Broadcasting Service. π
Then Trading Standards came to visit. π
Now, there are certain visitors who walk into a sweet shop and immediately make you think:
Oh.
Fortunately, everything food-related was absolutely fine. π
Our big misdemeanour?
POSTERS.
We need to put up our full company name, and our allergen/dietary information needs a little rearranging.
We currently show things such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan information together. Trading Standards would prefer the actual allergen information kept separate from dietary choices such as vegetarian and vegan.
So:
Food? FINE. β
Everything else? FINE. β
Posters? JENNY HAS HOMEWORK. π
We'll take that. π
Somewhere amongst all this, we also accidentally established a...
π€« SECRET WAX CANDY CLUB. π€«
We're not explaining that here.
IYKYK.
If you don't know, have a look at our TikTok...
Or ask us next time you're in. ππ¬
Which brings us to TODAY.
Saturday morning.
Surely we'd used up our weekly allocation of chaos?
Time for the Sweets & Treats pre-flight check.
Electricity? ON. β
Internet? WORKING. β
Card machine? WORKING. β
Till? HAS BATTERIES. Definitely the till. β
Ice cream machine? ON. β
Ice cream mix? READY. β
Cones? PURCHASED. β
300 jars of sweets? READY. β
Excellent.
And just to really tempt fate, this morning we'd proudly plastered our gorgeous ice cream trays ALL OVER SOCIAL MEDIA.
Beautiful whippy ice cream topped with your choice of sweets from ANY THREE of our 300 jars. π¦π¬
Come and get one!
Then the ice cream machine announced there was a problem.
Now, historically, when the ice cream machine announces there's a problem, we've learned to listen.
But today brought an unexpected plot twist.
THE ICE CREAM MACHINE WASN'T THE PROBLEM.
There was.
NO.
WATER.
π§β
Jenny checked the tap.
Nothing.
So naturally she went wandering around the neighbouring businesses asking everyone:
βHave YOU got water?β
Butchers opposite? YES.
CafΓ© opposite? YES.
Oh brilliant.
For one horrible moment, it appeared we'd somehow managed to personally lose our own water supply.
But...
Pet shop on our side? NO.
Charity shop? NO.
Sweets & Treats? NO.
Apparently the road had been divided into two separate civilisations.
Across the road:
π§ THE HAVES.
Our side:
ποΈ THE HAVE NOTS.
A quick check of the local Facebook group revealed a major leak outside Lidl and the water company already investigating.
Which means we would like to formally record this rare and important moment:
π FOR ONCE, IT ISN'T US. π
And we'd also like to acknowledge some quite remarkable character development.
A couple of weeks ago, our ice cream machine was causing emergencies.
Today...
IT REPORTED ONE.
We're considering promoting it. π¦π
Which brings us back to...
π THE TRAINERS.
At some point amongst all of the above, somebody left:
One bottle of water.
One Sour Abyss certificate.
And...
A PAIR OF TRAINERS.
Literally.
In the middle.
Of the shop floor.
Not one trainer.
BOTH OF THEM.
Which raises the fairly obvious question:
DID SOMEBODY LEAVE SWEETS & TREATS WITHOUT THEIR SHOES?!
We genuinely don't know.
So if you've recently got home from Sweets & Treats, looked down and thought...
"Hang on. I'm in my socks..."
WE HAVE YOUR TRAINERS. π
We also have your Sour Abyss certificate and your bottle of water.
Although given today's circumstances, possession of the water may be subject to negotiation. π§π
So this week's final Sweets & Treats scorecard:
β‘ Electricity β LOST IT
π Batteries β WRONGLY ASSIGNED TO ICE CREAM MACHINE
π Trading Standards β SURVIVED IT
π Posters β JENNY HAS HOMEWORK
π€« Secret Wax Candy Club β ESTABLISHED. IYKYK.
π§ Water β LOST IT
π¦ Ice cream machine β COMPLETELY INNOCENT
π Random pair of trainers β ACQUIRED
PLEASE HELP US FIND THE OWNER OF THE TRAINERS!
Share, tag, interrogate your children...
And perhaps check that they actually came home wearing the same number of shoes they left in. π
We were going to finish by saying:
βWhat could possibly happen next?β
But we've been running Sweets & Treats long enough to know that you NEVER, EVER ask that question.
ππ¬π¦π
Just another perfectly normal week at Sweets & Treats.
