NothingLikeWood I love walking in the woods, making furniture from local timber but most of all hand carving spoons with axe and knife. I'm happy to take commissions

It's always great when the first Saturday of the month comes around - because it's time for spoon club.

Taking time to chat with some kindred spirits and get those tools out again. Nothing like it.

Why not join the revolution and learn to carve a spoon!?

Just back from a great time whittling in Wardown Park, Luton. I do loved whittling in my home town, especially with an enthusiastic bunch of carvers. Some of the group today were first timers and one chap, John, has attended several sessions and is getting into the whittling groove.

İf you would like to join our group you would be very welcome. We meet every Tuesday morning at 10 am. We are finished by 12:30.

It was very changeable weather today. Beautiful sun one moment and then rain, even hail the next. But the gazebo held up and we were able to carry on whittling.

Whittling is such great craft. İt's fun to complete a project in just few hours. İt's great to zone in to shaping wood with small carving knife. İt is engrossing activity.

Why not come and give it a try?

DM for more details.

This was a spoon carving course that took place on the 23rd May. I'm late sharing these photos. It was probably the hottest day that I've had teaching and we did our best to escape the suns rays and sat in the workshop entrance.

We carved some lovely willow wood. It was really great to carve, not too hard, but once dry it will toughen up. The youngest carver here has had some experience whittling and was very productive and carved three spoons. That was quite some going.

It was great to get the tools out and carve some spoons together.

If you would like to learn to carve spoons then drop me a DM and I'll send you details of the next course.

Just back from a lovely morning whittling in Wardown Park in the centre of Luton.

I live very close to this park. And love taking a 5 minute commute to whittle in Wardown.

There was a little rain today, but it was still fine under cover and around the fire.

We whittled a new small tea spoon design. This takes off minimal wood and allows a large area on the handle on which folk can decorate in a myriad of ways.

If you would like to join us one Tuesday morning then follow the link in the bio, or send me a DM.

Whittling is a craft that you can step into with some simple guidance and a craft that can become engrossing and enjoyable. There is also scope to really develop some skill.

It is such a relaxing activity to do, especially around the fire. You learn so much from everyone - today we learnt that there a new, young hat manufacturer in town. What fab news.

I run these whittling sessions in partnership with the

If you follow me you know that I make lots of shrink pots. We'll I love to talk about shrink pots with other shrink pot makers too. At the recent Bodgers Ball at the Avoncroft Museum in Stoken Heath I met an old friend Andy

This is one of his beautiful shrink pots that has such an unusual textured surface. It was created using a t- bar auger on the outside of the pot. Typically we use it to clear the material from the inside of the pot. That is so creative, and I think it looks terrific. Andy then decorated the pot with some pigment.

Great work Andy.

Walking through the Bodgers Ball... there's so much going on. We stumbled over Ali talking about Hook tools to a audience of passionate pole lathe turners. As soon as Chips saw who it was who was talking his tail started wagging. Chips loves Ali, OK everyone loves Ali, but Chips knows that where Ali is, then bread is not too far away!!

Happy days.

All set up.

A small fire to keep warm, a first aid kit, some fresh willow to carve and and sharp tools.

I was joined by one willing whittler this week, others were on holiday or not very well.

We had a great time. We whittled willow wood and we whittled words.

We made some small tea spoons and a mini spoon. That is quite an achievement as Kamu is only just getting started with the craft.

If you would like to join us on Tuesday morning in Wardown Park, Luton then follow the link in the profile of send me a DM. There is a place for you around the fire.

I run these sessions in partnership with the
