Ey up! It’s tick tock Thursday and what a treat we have! It has taken a while but we are now proud to offer this incredibly rare and important HMV Model 1 automatic Gramophone with a provenance that goes to the top! Released in 1928, the HMV model 1 was the most expensive automatic Gramophone on the world. Available only to the elite of English society it featuring a 9ft Re-entrant horn, electric changer mechanism, the finest walnut case including the optional extra doors (£15) and light! Which was an extra 6 guinea.. in total this machine would have cost around £150. It doesn’t sound a lot now but back in 1928 you could have purchased a small house for that sum. The average weekly wage for an engine driver was 50 shillings (£2.5). We have totally overhauled and carefully conserved this absolute gem and it now works as it should… now to its history… this Machine was originally purchased by Baron de Rothschild and was installed in Waddesden Manor, famous for their fabulous society parties including members of the royal family and noted dignitaries this gramophone would have been the “show” piece to keep the music playing!. Having being moved to an outside store possibly during the Second World War when the main three rooms in the house were emptied to accommodate 100 evacuated children. The Gramophone remained in the store until around 20 years ago when it was purchased by the previous owner. This is a significant and important collectors piece on its own but with its provenance is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of living history.

Ey up.! It’s been a busy week in the shop.. but we have finally finished the restoration of the 1939 Rockola “Light Up”.. as well as restoring the 20 play mechanism we have also installed our Bluetooth system so that you can play your digital Maisie as well! The system automatically detects when the Jukebox is not playing a record and diverts the stylus input of the amplifier towards the Bluetooth signal. As soon as a coin is dropped in or the button is pressed, the Bluetooth disconnects.. pauses the music on your device and plays the record as originally intended.! This jukebox is now reserved but we still have the 1936 Rockola if you want incredibly cool! 🤓👍

Ey up! It’s time for an announcement! As well as restoring beautiful vintage Jukeboxes we now hand pick and restore fabulous vintage radios. However… to make these stunning stylish works of art relevant to today’s modern life, we designed and built a BLUETOOTH interface that works with the original circuits so that you can stream any digital media through the original speaker to give that very authentic sound.! To start is off.. we have the following. A 1932 Ekco Bakelite radio, a 1950 Bush DAC10 and finally a 1954 Pye P74. Each case has been fully restored using our years of experience in cabinet work and the electrical side fully complies with current standards of safety. Each radio will be retailed around £200 and have a full guarantee for your peace of mind.. there are plenty of retro copies….. why not have the real thing!! ( the Bluetooth circuit does not alter the original valve system in any way and can be removed without trace easily returning the radio back to original spec ) interested? 🤓👍

Ey up! This week has seen a bit more progress on the 1939 Rockola Light Up! One of the tasks was to check the electrical components one by one, we found that the deck switch was completely broken so instead of buying a replacement we decided to restore the original switch.. from the photos you can see the switch being completely dismantled, it was found that the throw contact was badly burnt due to arcing so a new one was made on the collet lathe. Once completed, two new rivets were turned and the switch reassembled.. it now has that very satisfying “click” these old switches should have and is ready for another 80 years!! Next up is the start of re-assembling the mechanism.. enjoy! 🤓👍

Our 1956 Rockola 1454 is now at the test stage! Having been fully dismantled to its last nut and bolt and then carefully restored and rebuilt. This Rockola is in a really fantastic original condition with perfect chrome and glass.. the Amplifier has been fully rebuilt by us in-house and it sounds absolutely amazing. Just a few little snags to sort them the Bluetooth can be fitted to the restored machine. We carefully match the Bluetooth to the machine so that the Amplifier is fed with the correct signal for its specification. Interested? Get in touch.

Ey up! It’s finally arrived!! I seem to have caught the vintage jukebox bug.. next up for a complete restoration is this absolutely fabulous 1939 Rockola “Standard Luxury Light up”. This was the new design of light up jukebox that was introduced and firmly placed Rockola as a main player in jukebox production. This new design of machine was a direct competitor to the new models being made by Wurlitzer. The machine features quite a number of early plastic panels called Catalin to the the sides and front that are lit by incandescent lamps, this plastic which is very similar to Bakelite was invented in 1927 in America and quickly became popular in Art Deco pieces of the time including radios, buttons and jukeboxes. Quite a change from the previous fine cabinets of the mid 1930’s. This jukebox will be completely dismantled and restored by me and when completed will also feature a Bluetooth connectivity as featured in our 1936 model B. This Bluetooth device does not alter the machine’s originality at all and is easily removed without a trace. It simply replaces the stylus “audio signal” when the jukebox is not playing a record. When the records are being played, the Bluetooth automatically disconnects from the machine so not to cause any interference etc. Keep an eye open for progress! Enjoy.. 🤓👍
