We are seeking a hardworking, reliable, and skilled individual to join our farm on a long-term, self-employed basis. This is not a seasonal temp role; we are looking for a dedicated contractor to manage and maintain our Christmas tree plantation throughout the entire year.

From the quiet growth of spring to the high-intensity harvest of winter, you will be a key partner in ensuring our trees are healthy, perfectly shaped, and ready for market.

The Role
As a self-employed contractor, you will manage your own workflow across the following areas:

Winter Harvest (The Peak): During November and December, the workload increases significantly. You must be prepared for long hours and heavy physical labour in cold weather to ensure the harvest is completed on time.

Tree Shaping (Summer): Pruning and shearing trees to maintain their density and conical shape.

Planting & Ground Care: Precision planting of new saplings and maintaining the site to prevent w**d overgrowth.

Site Maintenance: Routine farm maintenance, including fence repairs and track upkeep.

Chainsaw & Machinery Operations: Using professional equipment for harvesting and land clearing.

Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following essential criteria:

Valid Chainsaw Certification: A current license (e.g., NPTC/Lantra) is mandatory.

Self-Employed Status: You will be responsible for your own Tax and National Insurance.

Physical Stamina: The role is demanding and requires high fitness levels for year-round outdoor work.

Winter Flexibility: A commitment to working the long hours required during the peak harvest season.

Full Manual Driving License: Essential for operating farm vehicles and moving equipment.

Equipment: Preference may be given to those with their own basic PPE and tools, though specialized machinery is provided.

Rate of Pay
Contract Value: ÂŁ32,000 per annum (Paid via monthly invoice).

Experience: Final rate is negotiable depending on your level of experience and meeting the specific criteria of the farm.

How to Apply
If you are a motivated individual with the right certifications and a love for forestry work, we want to hear from you.

To Apply: Please send your CV/Work History and proof of your chainsaw certification to [email protected]

Things are looking a bit different out in the fields this May! We are out spraying our Christmas trees today. While the holidays feel a long way off, the work we do now is what makes those December memories possible.

We want you to know that the products we use are bug-friendly and pollinator-safe.

Why do we do it? This springtime care helps the trees:

- Stay Healthy: Supporting them during their big spring growth spurt.

- Keep that vibrant green colour for the seasons to come.

- Protect the new growth from the elements while keeping our "good bugs" like bees and ladybugs safe.

It’s a big job, but seeing these rows of healthy evergreens makes it all worth it. We can’t wait to see you all at the farm later this year to pick out your favorite!

Job Opportunity: Site & Retail Manager

Start Date: July / August 2026

Commitment: Full-Time

Are you someone who thrives in the outdoors and doesn't mind getting your boots dirty while keeping a sharp eye on the bottom line? We are looking for a dedicated, hands-on Site Manager to oversee the year-round operations and the high-stakes festive retail season of our Christmas tree farm.

While the world thinks of us in December, our work begins much earlier. We need a leader who can manage the quiet growth seasons with precision and lead the charge during the high-energy winter rush.

The Role:-
As Site Manager, you will be the backbone of the farm. You’ll transition from summer plantation maintenance to the logistical and commercial whirlwind of the holiday season, where you will take full ownership of both the land and the retail shop.

Key Responsibilities:-

Operational & Retail Oversight: Manage the full lifecycle of the trees (planting/shearing) and lead the retail side during Christmas, ensuring a seamless customer experience and high sales standards.

Logistics & Admin: Coordinate seasonal staffing, manage inventory, and handle essential site documentation, health and safety records, and retail reporting.

Dynamic Problem Solving: Maintaining operational continuity by resolving technical and logistical challenges under pressure, ensuring that farm and retail functions remain high-performing regardless of external factors.

Peak Season Leadership: Lead a large, diverse seasonal team during November and December, maintaining high morale and efficiency under significant pressure.

Travel: Occasional travel to secondary sites or equipment suppliers as required.

What We’re Looking For:-

Proven Leadership: A previous management role is essential. You must have demonstrable experience leading teams and operations.

Workload Mastery: You can prove your ability to manage a diverse workload, effectively prioritizing tasks when everything seems like a priority.

The "Fixer" Mentality: You are a natural problem solver who remains calm and effective under pressure.

Precision & Timing: Exceptional attention to detail and effective time management skills are non-negotiable.

Resilience: You are comfortable with long hours and weekend work during the peak Christmas period (November–December).

Drivers License: Essential due to the rural location and occasional travel.

Why Join Us?
Variety: No two days are the same—from the peace of the summer fields to the festive buzz of the retail season.

Autonomy: We trust our Manager to take ownership of the land, the shop, and the process.

Competitive Salary: Competitive salary dependent on experience.

How to Apply:-

If you are a motivated leader ready to take the reins of our plantation and retail operations, please send your CV and a cover letter detailing your management experience to:

If you’ve driven by the fields lately, you might notice our trees looking a little ‘fuzzy.’ That’s the spring flush, the brand-new growth that appears every May. These bright green tips are soft to the touch and show us exactly how much the trees are growing this year.

It takes about 6–10 years of 'flushes' like this before a tree is ready for your living room! It’s a slow process, but seeing this new life makes all the pruning and planting worth it.

AN UPDATE FROM MARLDON CHRISTMAS TREE FARM

A huge thank you to everyone who has shown interest in our recent post regarding the cafĂ© for this upcoming festive season! We’ve been blown away by the response, from the comments and emails to the flood of direct messages. It’s fantastic to see so many people excited to be part of our journey.

As we review the enquiries, one thing has become very clear: our vision for Marldon is expanding. We aren't just looking for a seasonal fix; we are looking for the future.

OPPORTUNITY: STRATEGIC OPERATING PARTNER

Marldon | The 2026 Evolution

Over the next few years, Marldon will be evolving.

The whispers regarding Occombe Farm and a potential "fruitful" expansion from the Lifton direction are fantastic (if true). For us, it simply confirms what we’ve always known: the Bay is now the premier destination for high-end hospitality.

But let’s be clear: we aren’t going anywhere! While we love seeing the "Fields" grow nearby, Marldon is firmly rooted right here. We aren't moving to Occombe; we’re just raising the bar on our own home turf.

Having established Marldon as the region’s premier destination at Christmas, we are now ready to evolve into a permanent, 365-day landmark. We are seeking Visionaries with the proven infrastructure and commercial weight to lead this transition with us.

The Vision

This represents a significant step up from traditional catering models. We are moving toward a long-term Commercial Partnership designed to manage a high-output, year-round operation. We are looking for partners who can demonstrate:

Fixed-Asset Expertise: Experience in managing permanent, high-end hospitality facilities—no "pop-ups," just permanent excellence.

Logistics at Scale: A track record of handling massive peak-time footfall with precision, technology, and professional standards.

Year-Round Destination Appeal: The creative depth to sustain a sophisticated, 365-day restaurant brand that serves the community every day of the week.

The Future

The arrival of top-tier operators in the Bay is a wonderful development for the local economy. At Marldon, we are looking for a partner who shares our ambition to move beyond the temporary and help us build a lasting, year-round legacy right here at the Farm.

Hello everyone!

I’m currently on a mission to document the history of the farm, and I need your help to bridge the gap between the past and the present. I am looking for photos of the entire site, including the Treehouse Grotto, spanning the last 20 years.

Whether you have a grainy digital snap from the early 2000s or a high-def shot from last season, I want to see them! I’m looking for:

The Big Picture: Wide shots of the whole site and how the landscape has changed over two decades.

The Grotto Details: Magical interior setups, festive decor, and exterior views of the structure itself.

Favorite Moments: Candid shots of family traditions, smiles, and those "you had to be there" memories.

It’s incredible to think about how much has evolved over the years, and your photos are the best way to tell that story. If you have a moment to scroll back through your old digital albums, cloud storage, or camera rolls and drop your favourites in the comments, I’d be so grateful!

Can’t wait to see your favorite memories through the years!

I think we got a few of you guys yesterday for April Fools đŸ€Ł

We promise we’re back to growing the real thing now
although a bit of extra sunshine wouldn’t hurt! 😄

A little update from the farm

After a lot of customer feedback over the past few seasons, we’ve been quietly trialling a small range of “alternative” Christmas trees alongside our traditional firs.

This year, we’re excited to expand that trial to include a limited number of Norfolk Island Pines and Lemon Cypress trees.

They’re slightly different in shape and scent, but a great option for those looking for something a bit unique (and they cope surprisingly well with milder winters!).

We’ll be sharing more details closer to the season once they’re ready.

Let us know your thoughts below, would you try something a little different this Christmas?
