Urmston Books and Board Games is an independent family-run bookshop and board game cafe designed to celebrate stories, both for you and by you.

Welcome to the website of Urmston Bookshop which opened in October 2010. We are Sandra and Kevin Foy and Kathryn Banner and are very proud of the shop which has proved to be a great addition to Urmston town centre. We stock a range of titles for both adults and children together with specialist cards, stationery, gifts and many other educational toys and games. We also have a meeting room with an SMART Interactive board. This room is used for all different events from story times, author visits, book clubs to photographic exhibitions. Several schools have also used the room for book based staff meeting and in-service training. We look forward to meeting you soon! Sandra, Kevin and Kathryn.

Thank you to local history author Michael Billington for taking us on a whistle stop tour through the schools of Urmston, Flixton and Davyhulme yesterday evening.

Lots of insight, nostalgia and learning! Signed copies of Michael’s books, including this one, are available to buy now in store.

Also just taking an emotional moment to say: thank you to everyone who preordered this title, and highly anticipated titles just like this, from us. From online retailers to supermarkets, we know there are places you can get this cheaper.

I could go into the specifics of trade discounts and overheads but that doesn’t change the fact that every penny you’re spending with us is a penny that you could have for something else. Join local historian Michael Billington in just a week to discover the history of the schools in Urmston, Flixton and Davyhulme!

With photos, school reports, pupil memories and examples of work dating back to over a hundred years, it’s a chance to explore the heritage of education in our area.

Tickets are just £5 and include a welcome drink on the night, and copies of the book will be available to purchase.

We are so delighted to welcome Frances to our team! It’s a real full circle moment for the shop – Frances and Peter started this very bookshop many years ago, and she brings a huge amount of passion and knowledge.

Frances coming on board will also allow us to have the shop and board game café open on Sundays, so do look out for a change in opening hours soon!

She’ll be joining us sometime in the next couple of weeks, so do say ‘hello’ when you see her. 😊
