D E T A I L S
as makers how much time is spent on the things we don’t see?
how often are you asked about the time it takes to make something?
more often than not i’m sure it is just a casual enquiry - a way into starting a conversation with the maker, an insight into your working practice, your methods & time management - & we all have our ways of working - our ways of making things work - even when it looks as though they’re not going to - for now, not this time.
this week i’m focussed on cutting out - it’s quite mindful - i concentrate - measure twice - or five times - cut once, & all that.
but as i measure & cut & pile the cut pieces, planning & organising the piece with a product it occurred to me that these three or four days, so vital a part of my process, could so easily be overlooked in the costing & evaluation of the finished item.
it is a question i find tricky to answer sometimes - but now i’ve calculated the perfect answer - & taking all things into consideration -
how long did it take you to make this item?
only about 65 years!
tick tock!
