Why are fire engines red?

Well, books are read,
and magazines are read, too.
Two plus two is four.
Two times four is eight.
Eight plus four is 12.
There are 12 inches in a foot.
There are 12 inches in a ruler.
Queen Elizabeth was a ruler.
Queen Elizabeth was also a ship.
Ships sail the ocean.
The ocean has fish.
Fish have fins.
The Finns fought the Russians.
The Russians are red.
Fire engines are always rushin’.
So that’s why they’re red.

The toilets in the main car park were reopened in time for this week's market. They will be open 6 days a week from now on.
The toilets are run by Machynlleth Town Council and were closed for last 12 weeks due to the high risk of such a facility. Most public loos in Wales were closed to the public.
A lot of risk assessing, guidance and the like were looked at and following a huge deluge of complaints from locals and visitors alike we have done all we can to minimize the risk to the public and have reopened. The facilities are cleaned and checked regularly and deep cleaned daily. If the new regime doesn't work they will be closed again.
The toilets cost the Town council over £16,000 per year to operate. Less than half this am mount is collected from the entrance fees.
It was sad to see that on the first day open (Wednesday) someone vandalized the lock on the ladies toilet which will now cost us a minimum of £250 to repair.
You would all be suprised how badly some members treat these facilities and the mess they leave- Some of the results are truly revolting.

It is with great sadness that I write this post, but we wouldlike to let all those that knew Jim Algar who supported us over the years, that he passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Jim loved every moment he spent here and with his customers at the markets, which over the years became more friends than customers. Jim sold the best pork and cheese products for miles.
Sue would like to say a big 'Thank you' to all and is interested to hear people’s thoughts and memories of Jim, so please if any of you have anything that you would like to share, it would be more than welcomed on the post.

Despite numerous warnings, the contamination of the Machynlleth community recycling sites continues, meaning plans will be made to remove the facility.

We’re glad to report that the ‘official’ Machynlleth market can operate from this Wednesday onwards. We look forward to welcoming old and new friends back after the lockdown. We ask that you observe all social distancing protocols and comply with any instructions from the stall holders. Things won’t return to ‘normal’ just yet, but this is a step in the right direction. Take care and stay safe.

VISITORS TO POWYS

Powys County Council is asking people to adhere to the Government's advice and not to travel to holiday destinations in the County until the pandemic is over.

Cllr James Evans, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Housing and Regulatory Services, said: "Powys is one of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom and we welcome visitors to our County. However, the time to visit Powys is not now. The first job of a Council is to protect our residents and our businesses and that is why we are asking people not to visit Powys until coronavirus is under control.

"We would normally be delighted to see so many visitors to our County, but these are far from normal times. We need to work together to beat this virus and that means complying with the Government advice by staying at home and avoiding non-essential travel.

"We are working very hard with our partners in Powys Teaching Health Board and the Third Sector to ensure we can minimise the impact of Covid19 on our communities and it is important the everyone plays their part in helping to stop the spread of coronavirus.

"We understand the impact of this virus on the tourism business in Powys and are pleased to see the support being provided by the UK Government through Business Rate relief, grants and other measures to support our businesses. If caravan parks and other premises want to close to limit the spread of the virus, I will ensure that pressure is put on government to make sure your business is protected."

"The fact of the matter is that neither the NHS in Mid Wales, nor the Council has the resources to meet the needs of a large increase in our population. So, I would urge people not to travel to Powys until the pandemic is over - if you do you will be putting both yourself and our residents at risk.

"If we do not see a reduction in visitors to the county, we will have to take further steps to limit visitors and possibly close our right of way network.

"We will be ready to welcome visitors with open arms as soon as it is safe to do so but for now, please follow the Government's advice: stay at home, avoid all but essential travel and practise social distancing. If we all work together, we can beat this virus and get Powys back open for business as soon as possible."

Machynlleth Market was angry about the wanton disregard shown for our lovely town by the Extinction Rebellion duo who pasted posters on everything that wasn't moving in the town. All you have managed to do is loose all public support for your cause by being so thoughtless. Lets hope you can show a bit of contrition and start to remove and clean the town up again very soon.
