Couldn't resist a sneaky peek to see if she and her retinue were OK.OOOH! she is a beauty. The bigger bee with longer legs and less banding.Notice the plug of sugar fondant to feed them. When I introduce her ,I will remove the plastic seal and both my bees and the retinue will nibble their way to a meeting. It will take time and by they ,they will be used to her scent and (Hopefully)will accept her.

You may be amazed by this!-The postman certainly was.Like all beekeepers,we had large colony losses last Winter.I have bred some of my own queen bees but every now and then,we buy in a good British black bee to add to our genepool. So excited to introduce her to a queen less hive ,we have ready for her entrance.

Since the hot weather began, Lytham bees has had almost 20 calls and messages, asking for help with bumble bees or wasps. It is a really busy time for us and we ONLY deal with honey bees. They are the little, thin, not fluffy, brownish ones that hang in clusters when they swarm. They don't nest in holes in the ground or tiny spaces. Before beekeeping ,I didn't know the difference either.

I became a beekeeper ,I thought a bee was a bee. There are over 200 species, most of them endangered. Many people have contacted me in the hot weather to say they have bees in there garden. That is a good thing. If they are coming out of a hole, they are usually Mason or carder bees. The wildlife advice is just leave them.Perhaps put a guard around the nest but they will go and not return next year.Plus ,your garden will be lovely this year.Only one bee,the honey bee makes honey and she is the one we deal with.If a swarm is hanging from a low tree like a bunch of grapes or forming a 'carpet' on your lawn,we can Before help.
