A Little Piece of Our Family History… 🐑❤️
This is a very special photograph for us.
The gentleman you can see working away at his sewing machine is Joady’s grandad, Jack — affectionately known as Tut.
This wonderful old advertisement gives us a glimpse into the early days of The Lynton Sheepskin Shoppe, when the shop was at 2 Lee Road, Lynton, and sheepskin and suede coats were individually tailored on the premises.
Tut was a skilled leather and skin specialist, working with sheepskin and leather long before the shop became what it is today. The advert proudly describes him as “the only sheepskin tailor in the West Country.”
Looking at this photograph, surrounded by sheepskin, leather and his sewing machine, it's lovely to imagine the hours of craftsmanship that went into every piece he made.
And for us, this isn't just a photograph from the past — it's part of our family's story.
From Jack (Tut) and those early days at 2 Lee Road to the shop we have today, the business has continued through the generations, with The Lynton Sheepskin Shop proudly remaining a family-run business since 1957.
Some things have changed enormously over the years… but our connection with sheepskin, leather and quality craftsmanship remains.
❤️ Jack “Tut” Geller — part of the story behind The Lynton Sheepskin Shop.
Do you remember Tut, the old shop, or those early days in Lynton?
We'd absolutely love to hear your memories. 🐑
