All you can do some days is just stand back and say "Wow!". It was fleeting, though- the colour was gone before we got to the end of the channel. Unfortunately, the fishing was completely rubbish! Never mind - next time, hopefully....

New BBC series! The fishing scenes are interesting enough, but it's the competitive aspects and the decisions made around the market that are most interesting, as they are probably things that most people have no awareness of. Worth a watch if you are at all into fishing!

We're environmentally-focused at Hurst Point, so occasionally we'll post about such things. This Ends Report on the Severn (link below) was a tough listen - the state of England's rivers is absolutely shocking. Only 14% have good ecological status, and 0% have good chemical status. That's none, none at all! Of course, it doesn't just affect rivers - all this stuff ends up in the sea. As well as the report, the bare facts are here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/state-of-the-water-environment-indicator-b3-supporting-evidence/state-of-the-water-environment-indicator-b3-supporting-evidence?fbclid=IwAR2N56Pvwx4bAnmCm1L9U5n30DGT9KABG9KLnyywo0W1Ov8XeTb-qhSF2Hw

In ENDS' new film, SEVERN: The poisoning of Britain’s Amazon, Environment Agency whistleblowers, experts and people who live by and work with the river give their testimonies as to how the river has been allowed to deteriorate and the dire consequences for people and wildlife.

Fishing isn't all flat calms and fine days, but at least my gimbal moves seem up to scratch!

Time to talk bycatch (things caught apart from our target species). After a year of catching bass commercially, this garfish from last week (in the sun!) is literally the very first other 'thing' we have caught. As scientists and consultants, we've studied the catch profiles of commercial fisheries all around the world, and it makes ours the most selective fishery we've ever seen. It means we can confidently say we have minimal unintended impacts on the wider environment, which is clearly a very good thing

What a difference a couple of days makes - it was coming down like stair rods first thing! But, the fish don't mind the rain and the oilskins work a treat, so the fishing goes on!

We've been off FB for a while as Rob's had some time away, but we've now had a couple of quick goes back in the water with the great weather this week - the pic shows a near perfect calm! In truth, the bass were a little hard to come by, but it was very good to be out so we're aiming to fish (and post) more regularly again through the autumn as weather allows.

Rob's busy working on another tricky Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) fishery. As such, despite the amazing weather, we're not doing very well at getting out fishing at the moment! Still, we're hoping to create the time for a trip on Wednesday... The tide will be low early on, so we'll have to creep our way gingerly out of the harbour, but get in touch if you'd like a very fresh bass for your tea and we'll keep our fingers crossed for some success!

You have to click on the pic to get to it, but we've just had this great review from Michelin-starred chef Jesse at Terroir Restaurant in Southbourne. This sort of thing is why we do what we do!

Sometimes things come together - we were very pleased to see this special fish come to the boat!! As for me, I'm not sure if I look very pleased with myself, or just very tired after the 3am start!

We've had a couple of trips out recently without posting anything - we've just got on with the fishing side of things! It's not been easy, though - the feed fish aren't around in abundance, currently, so we're having to work hard to find the bass. This was a better one from the other day, though - pulled out of the ice for a pic upon our return home! And we're going again on Wednesday, weather permitting, so let us know if you'd fancy a delicious bass for the holidays! Of course, we can send anywhere on the mainland by 24 hr courier, also. Thanks!
