Here we have six volumes of The Illustrated History of the First World War. Each volume contains more than 450 pages with a vast amount of photographic and written evidence covering every stage of the Great War. The original content, produced 1914-1918, was reprinted in 1999 with a retail price of £50 per volume. Though each volume here is virtually as good as new, all six are being offered for the combined price of £100, or closest offer. They are free to collect or can be delivered to anywhere in Shropshire for a very small fee. Delivery can also be arranged for anywhere outside Shropshire.

I’m showing the back as well as the front of this book as it is relevant to a news topic this week. Written in the 90s Mike Marqusee’s book says much of what he considered to be racism in the English cricket establishment and the English media. I personally disagree with this view and with the report of this week which I think is glib, lacking in evidence and is itself, prejudiced. However Marqusee did have a great historical knowledge of cricket and a passion for the game despite knowing virtually nothing about it when first arriving from the USA. This makes for a fascinating read.

These are books by Shropshire author, Charlotte Anne Walters. Barefoot on Baker Street is a novel currently on sale both sides of the Atlantic and is set in Victorian London with the central character being a bright orphan who becomes drawn into a life of crime. It has a retail price of £10.99. Charlotte's other book, pictured here, is a collection of stories based on Sherlock Holmes adventures but with modern day ingredients, including overpaid celebrities and the tabloid press. It has a retail price of £7.99. A few copies of these books will be on sale, with 10% discount, at my Ludlow stall on Fridays, and Charlotte will be nearby and happy to sign any bought copy.
