I spend quite alot of time thinking about Pride and Prejudice, watching Pride and Prejudice adaptations, watching people reacting to Pride and Prejudice adaptations, and also watching P&P based reels, for me P&P isn’t postage and packaging. That’s the level of obsession. When watching P&P content, I weigh in on who is the best Darcy, I think we can all agree on who is the best Darcy here, and this ring is like Austen’s original text, it’s perfection, but I do think Darcy committed a cardinal sin that could have changed everything in his first proposal, he proffered no ring!! Had he impugned the quality of Lizzie’s connections, her family, her social standing, but given her this ring, things may have gone differently 😂. I am clearly joking, but it is interesting that rings weren’t so much of a thing, Darcy was high society and he didn’t propose with a ring. Austin was searingly insightful, and were engagement rings de rigeur, she would have described one. Archduke Maximilian (the man the legend) is believed to be the first man to propose with a diamond ring, if memory serves, it was a ring with diamonds spelling his own initial (M) so yeah, nice and all lol. I’ve just fact checked myself, and he proposed to Mary of Burgundy, so we have to give him the benefit of doubt. That was way back in 1477. Pride and Prejudice was published in 1813, and rings don’t feature. If there was a ring, I like to believe it was an historically inaccurate ring a bit like this, it’s 100 years later, but it’s a big old cut centre, and I like to think Darcy gave Elizabeth a ring, and that it was a lovely big old cut. We have plenty of lovely big old cuts available and a 100% she said yes rate.
