A little surprise while fitting a new bridge and getting ready to refit the soundpost on this double bass!

These instruments travel all over the world, and it looks like someone in the audience enjoyed the performance so much they slipped some money through the f-hole as a tip.

Needless to say, this customer will be getting their money back today! It’s always worth having a look inside an instrument—you never know what treasures you might find.

Dear customers and friends,

As many of you know, I have been busy moving my workshop over the last few months. Packing up and leaving Dulwich behind was not easy, as it has been a wonderful place with many great memories and friendships.

I am now happily settled in my new workshop in Epsom. Thank you so much for all the kind messages, support, and positive feedback during this transition. It has also been lovely to already meet some musicians and welcome familiar faces in the new place.

The cellos are back on the bench!
I’m looking forward to continuing the work I love — repairing, restoring, and bringing these beautiful instruments back to life.

Thank you again for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing many of you in Epsom soon.

This cello had quite an accident. I’m not a magician, but I’ve done my best to carefully retouch the varnish and minimise the appearance of the crack.

Structurally, it’s now secure again — with a soundpost patch and internal studs fitted to reinforce the area properly.

Always satisfying to bring an instrument back to life and give it many more years to sing.

Yesterday, my last working day before Christmas ended on the best possible note.
I was kindly invited to exhibit my instruments at the South London Youth Orchestra’s end-of-year concert. Fantastic performances, brilliant young musicians, and it was so lovely to see a few of my customers and musician friends there. A truly special way to start the festive break!
