Hi guys, hope you have enjoyed the wonderful summer break! The upcoming 10th of September is The Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important traditional festivals in China also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival.

This is a great opportunity for teachers to share this fabulous Chinese festival with students.

The traditions and customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival include Mooncakes, Lanterns, and reunion. Additionally, one of the most important meanings of The Mid-Autumn Festival is Gathering.

Then he talked him into going to the mountain for an elixir, hoping that Houyi would fall from the cliff and die. To his dismay Houyi came back alive with the elixir. Fengmeng came up with another ruse. He falsely accused Chang'e, Houyi's wife, of adultery, which Houyi accepted as the truth. As Chang'e could no longer suffer the ill treatment of Houyi she took the elixir and became immortal and flew off to the Moon Palace.

From July 7th to 8th, 2022, the student’s final performance hosted by Kensington Wade School and sponsored by CypressBooks was held in the Kensington Wade School’s Auditorium. The performance was based on traditional Chinese myths and classic children's stories. The students performed such as " The Tadpoles Look For Their Mommy ", " Pangu Separates the Sky from the Earth ", " Nuwa's Creation of Humans ", " Wu Song Beats Tiger " and other shows, which received the parents' applause. CypressBooks set up a booth for Chinese books and art crafts at the performance site. The collections included books related to the theme of the event, picture books suitable for primary school students, and traditional Chinese crafts have been displayed, which were deeply loved by teachers, students, and parents.

2022年7月7日至8日，由Kensington Wade School主办，常青图书赞助的学生成果汇报表演，在Kensington Wade School礼堂举办。汇报表演以中国传统神话故事和经典儿童故事为主题，学生们表演了“小蝌蚪找妈妈”、“盘古开天”、“女娲造人”、“武松打虎”等节目，赢得了家长们热烈的掌声。常青图书在表演现场设置了中文图书及艺术品展位，现场展示活动主题相关图书、适合小学生阅读的绘本及中国传统工艺品，深受师生及家长的喜爱。

The 2022 British Chinese Language Teaching Society conference was held from June 24th to 25th at the Open University. The theme of this year's annual meeting is " CREATIVITY IN CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHING AND LEARNING". More than 70 Chinese teachers from the UK, China, Japan, India, and other countries participated in this annual meeting online and offline. As the exclusive sponsor of this meeting, Cypressbooks set up a book booth on the site of the meeting and bring some Chinese textbooks published in recent years to teachers. In the publicity session, Cypressbooks introduced the new version of the HSK Syllabus and recommended books such as the new version of " Chinese in Steps" Volume 4, "Great Wall Chinese Second Edition", and " Zoom in " series to the teachers that attending the meeting, which received wide attention.

On 21st June, Cypress Books was honored to hold the Chinese calligraphy workshop with Dulwich College. Dulwich College has been established for many years, founded in 1619.

Students who participated in Chinese classes at Dulwich College joined in this activity.
Some students already knew 100 Chinese characters before. Classes run from 8:30 am to 15:45 pm. The course consists of five lessons in total, with students of different levels of Chinese.

Cypress Books invited our calligraphy teacher Xu Jianchu. Mr. Xu demonstrated the history of Chinese calligraphy, then further explaining the basic skills of calligraphy. MR. Xu began from beginner skills to more advanced Chinese characters. Mr. Xu also explained the types and formats of calligraphy. During this art course, Teacher Xu also demonstrated to students to draw Chinese paintings, like green bamboo, butterflies, and shrimps.

Most of the students did not try calligraphy before. However, from the time they were first introduced to calligraphy to the end of the course, the students were able to write the four-character calligraphy of "Happy Birthday" in Chinese. We are so glad to see that students were happy to participate in this Chinese calligraphy workshop! 😆
6月21日，常青图书很荣幸与创立于1619年，历史悠久的Dulwich College联合举办了书法的Workshop。

Dulwich College大部分有参与中文课的学生都参与了这次的活动。部分学生已经认识100个汉字。课程从上午8:30到下午15:45。课程一共包含五堂课，有不同中文程度的学生。

常青图书这次邀请了我们的书法老师许健礎。许老师从中国书法的历史开始讲起，进一步也讲解了书法的基本技巧。许老师循序渐进地从基本的书法技巧开始解说，到一些比较复杂的汉字。同时，许老师也解释了书法的类别。在这次活动中，许老师也教导学生画中国国画，比如青竹，蝴蝶和虾。

在参加本次活动之前，大部分的学生都没有写过书法。然而，学生们从刚接触书法到课程结束已经可以写出“生日快乐”四个字的书法。学生们都很开心参与这次中国书法活动。

The upcoming 3rd June is the Dragon Boat Festival, one of the most important traditional festivals in China. The traditions and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival are also important. E.g. Dragon Boat Racing, Eating Sticky Rice Dumplings and wearing perfume pouches.

Spring was back to London; it’s a good time to learn something new with the start of spring! Cypress Books cooperated with Kensington Wade School to host a Chinese Art Day on March 24, guiding children to get to know Chinese traditional arts culture. We are so thrilled to share this joyful and stunning experience here!

For this event, Cypress Books invited Chinese calligraphy and arts expert Jianchu Xu to teach children basic arts knowledge and how to paint. Children spontaneously sit around in groups of five， sharing ink, watercolour, painting tools, and the joy of learning together.

Mr. Xu taught students how to paint animals they were most interested in, like panda, rabbit, frog, bird, goldfish, etc. Although this was the first chance that children got to know and understand Chinese traditional arts, all children boldly tried with colour, brushes, and their imagination, finally creating the painting works they loved.

Besides, the amazing thing which has to be mentioned is Kensington Wade School is one bilingual primary school, thus, Mr. Xu taught with using Mandarin for this event. Combing with this point, this event not only fit the theme of Chinese Art Day, but also encouraging and inspiring children to learn Chinese.

伦敦终于迎来了和暖明媚的春日，趁着春光正好，常青图书与Kensington Wade School于3月24日合作举办了中国艺术日，给小朋友们带去了中国的传统艺术文化体验。Cypress Books很开心可以在这里与各位分享这份喜悦。

在本次中国艺术日的活动中，常青图书有幸邀请到了美术专家许健础老师为小朋友们授课。整个艺术日活动分为五个小组，小朋友们自发有序地围坐到一起，和同组的小伙伴们共同分享水彩与画具，尽情沉浸在绘画的乐趣之中。

许老师在课堂上教授了小朋友们最感兴趣的小动物水墨画，有熊猫，兔子，青蛙，小鸟，金鱼……虽然是第一次接触中国传统水墨画，但小朋友们也收获颇丰，在兴致盎然的大胆尝试之后都创作出了自己喜欢的小动物画作。

更值得一提的是Kensington Wade School 是一所双语小学，所以许老师在本次活动中使用中文讲解，不仅和本次中国传统美术文化氛围相融合，也同样促进了小朋友们的中文学习，进一步启蒙了小朋友们对中文学习的兴趣。
