Underrated freestyle drills that fix more than you think 🏊‍♂️
Drill 1️⃣
One arm on the board, the other arm resting by your side.
Breathe to the side of the arm that's down.
This forces you to engage your core, clean up your head position, and actually feel where your body is in the water instead of relying on momentum.
It's all about balance, alignment, and awareness.
Drill 2️⃣
Same setup, but now add a full stroke with the free arm.
The moment you add movement, the core demand increases.
You're challenged to stay stable while rotating, breathing, and pulling — without losing position.
This also lets you really focus on that working arm and the quality of each stroke.
Simple drills.
High awareness.

Your head position is either making you fast… or holding you back. 🏊‍♂️

In the first clip, the swimmer lifts his head too high.
What happens?
Hips drop. Legs sink. Drag explodes. Speed dies.

In the second clip, everything changes.
Head neutral. Eyes down. Body flat like a torpedo.
Water flows cleanly around the body — and suddenly, swimming feels easy.

This one small correction can make you faster, smoother, and less tired in just one session.

Most swimmers never realize this… and it’s why they struggle even when they train hard.

If you’re a complete beginner, I’d 100% recommend starting with lessons from a swimming instructor.
But… if you already swim and just want to improve your technique or try some new drills — I’ve got you 😎💦

1. Face in water + bubbles
Stand holding the poolside, put your face in the water, blow bubbles, then lift your head to breathe.
⏱️ Do 30 seconds (or 5 breaths) × 3 rounds.
➡️ Honestly, this is the most important drill for learning to swim!

2. Side breathing
Same drill, but this time turn your head to the side to breathe.
👉 Think: one ear in, one ear out.

3. Kicking with float (front breathing)
Hold a float in front of you with straight arms, kick, and lift your head forward to breathe.
💡 Keep your ankles loose, like you’re trying to kick your socks off!

4. Kicking with side breathing
Float out in front, arms straight, kicking while turning your head to the side to breathe.
👉 Again, imagine one ear in, one ear out.

5. Single-arm drill
Hold the float out with one arm, kick, and turn to the side to breathe.
🔥 Feeling confident? Try it with both arms instead!
