Onopordum acanthium, commonly known as cotton thistle, originates from Europe and Western Asia. This striking biennial is best known for being tall, its silvery-grey foliage, large purple flower heads and for being very prickly.
That doesn't stop bees though, this flower attracts a wide range of pollinators. Its nectar-rich blooms provide an important food source for bees and butterflies, while its seeds are enjoyed by finches and other birds. 🐝🐦
