I’ve been experimenting with new materials this week and definitely my lesson of the week is don’t forget to have fun with your craft, play and make mistakes!

I often get asked in workshops of things are ‘right’ and whilst I am of course there to teach embroidery I’m also very keen that people really let loose with their imagination and make their piece unique!

This is a landscape using watercolour, felt, net, and of course stitch - any other materials you think would be a creative addition do let me know, prepared to chuck it all on to this one! 🤩

Time is certainly speeding by which is even more reason to book yourself some time out and enjoy a little bit of crafty self-care!

Calling all LEOS!

Don’t forget to grab this this months editions of which features your gorgeous Leo embroidery pattern - part of the zodiac series. This is a fantastic pattern to get to grips with long & short stitch, and turn your hand to a bit of thread painting with this lovely lion!

When studying art one of the most valuable lessons I learnt was that things don’t have to look exactly like things to look like things! In other words you don’t always have to be literal in order to capture the essence of a scene or image.

This applies as much for stitch as it does for paint, so here in order to add some floral detail to my abstract river scene I’m adding little neon pink French knots sporadically to give the impression of a cluster of flowers. I think it works far better than trying to literally recreate flowers - and a smattering of French knots is a little more contemporary than a stitch like a woven wheel - hope you agree!

That’s right … YOU CAN STILL CRAFT IN SUMMER! 😅

Thought I’d take this glorious weather to remind people that crafting is not just for winter lol, it definitely seems to be associated with ‘cosy times’ but actual there is nothing lovelier than a needle and thread in a shady corner!

So as the summer is upon us remember to stand united and carry on crafting! 🤩🤩
