Peckham Soul wholeheartedly rejects negative views are around diversity. Diversity is the spark which ignites debate and engagement - debate and engagement which leads everybody to a deeper understanding, no matter where they're from. Kicked off by Craig Jamieson (DJ Solid C), Peckham Soul will be the home for original design, whether this be t-shirts, clothing, artwork or any other forms of creat
ivity, which reflect and engage with this ethos. It will host and be involved in a range of events across Peckham and South East London area. Currently, these include our Northern Soul Room residency at the mighty South London Soul Train and ‘Unity’ reggae events which we organize at The CLF Art Café/Bussey Building and other Peckham locations. Check our ‘events’ page’ to see what's comin' up. Peckham history of musical diversity is rich and, well, diverse! Currently venues such as The CLF Art Café/Bussey Building, Canavan’s, Peckham Pelican, Bar Story, Gowlett, The Sun Camberwell, Montague Arms and others reflect this diversity. From 1960’s Motown soul dancing at the Paradise in Peckham Rye Lane, to Admiral Ken Sound system at Mr Bee (The Bouncing Ball), to Peckham’s illicit ‘Blues Parties,’ to the rise of South East London’s sound systems such as Jah Shaka in the 1970’s and 80’s, to raga & dancehall, and right up to the contemporary musical exploration of ‘Rhythm Section,’ Peckham has always buzzed with musical interaction and invention. Keep up to date with our ‘news’ features to find out more about this engaging history and current innovations. Music has always been the soul of Peckham, and diversity has been its defining characteristic. So Peckham Soul is throwing a party were we gonna dance and celebrate this musical diversity.
