Today, on the 5th of April, several squatters were evicted from their home in Gloucester Avenue 79, Camden.
The ongoing picture of police brutality and chicanery in Camden mirrors in the arrest of 7 activists.
Police arrived at 6am and forced people out of the property, accusing them of the illegal use of electricity.
The occupiers reopened the abandoned building as an art gallery and creative space. Last weekend around 40 people gathered to listen to enjoy art, listen to free live music, paint a collective mural, have a chat with
the artists and come together to celebrate a lot of more things in an non-commercialised environment.
This goes along with the reopening of onother abandoned art gallery not far away.
Because of gentrification and regeneration which both result in the destruction
of social housing projects and not affordable rents, especially the youth struggles to find possibilities to experience self
governed living and find shelter instead of living in the streets. This is an attack against our freedom and
denies our right for housing and self expression. It also proves that in the capitalist system improvement of
infrastructure and housing does only go into one way: To fill the pockets of property developers, multibillion pound
cooperations and the bourgeois who hold land, houses and factories.
Meanwhile builders are boarding up the house and the remaining crew could rescue their posessions to another place.
Another place was opened nearby already. But those who get even richer on the back of the poor should be aware that the
number of people who won't take this s**t any more is growing steadily.
If we unite we can bring the power of the people onto the streets, into the houses and factories.
We will continue to liberate spaces and protest for our right for housing. If the kids are united they will never be divided.
If you fight existence - expect resistance. You cannot evict a movement.
Tomorrow one of the arrested activists faces a court hearing. If you want to show solidarity
you can come to the Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court at 51 Holloway Rd, London N7 8JA.
End the criminalisation of squatting! Give the houses to the people who use them for living! Anticapitalista!
