The library. My favourite place to take my children.
Because in a library, the rules are different.
You choose. Nobody tells you what to read.
You can wander the shelves just reading the spines. Let a title stop you in your tracks.
You can pick up a book just because the cover caught your eye. That’s how the magic starts!
You can read the blurb, the first page, the last line and put it back. That’s allowed.
You can check what’s just been returned and wonder who borrowed it before you.
You can flick through just to find the illustrations. That counts too.
You can start a book and decide it’s not for you. That’s not giving up, that’s knowing your own mind.
A library says to every child: these stories belong to you.
Today we came home with The Castle of Tangled Magic, Finding Bear, Murder Most Unladylike, My Name is Samim and two Bunny vs Monkey books. She chose every single one herself.
When did you last visit yours?
