Here at Craft Show we often feel like we’re sitting on a treasure trove of insights and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the craft world and we’ve finally found a place to share it with you. Every month, in our newsletter, we’re sharing a studio visit with a maker we are curious about.

Craft Crits 💞 Our Craft Crits are coming back this Autumn and we can’t wait for the first one, on the 19th September in Brockley. They’re something we’ve been offering up in one form or another since all the way back in 2010…

We will be running monthly Craft Crits - regular meet-ups for makers, artists and craftspeople to get together and discuss their work, bring your sketchbooks, your inspiration or just yourselves. Craft Crits are back!

This autumn we will be hosting regular meet-ups for makers, artists and craftspeople to get together and discuss their work. Loosely based on the an art school ‘critique’, they are a warm space to either soft launch an idea in a small group, get feedback on your work or to alleviate creative block and get your ideas flowing. Working as a maker or artist can often be a solo affair, and we think sharing and collaborating are key to feeling your most creative.

A real life quilting bee 🐝

A few weeks ago we spent a magical evening sewing, eating and getting to know people over a quilt. We all added stitches and patches to the Grief Quilt for Palestine with and , thanks for having us 🐝

A Textile Assembly reading list. For the first time ever, we put together a reading list to support our last show. 

We always take huge inspiration from writers and books. Books about craft, textiles and the art of making are often where our shows and workshops jump from but we’d never thought to put together a formal reading list for a show before asked us to sit down and write one. Choosing just 10 wasn’t easy.

We had lots of the books in the gallery space for you to flick through when you visited and so many of you whisked one off into ‘s tent.

〰️ A Textile Assembly 〰️ is open for the rest of the week. Come and surround yourself with the bright and bold, comforting and calming work of 20 of your favourite makers.

It’s a rare and special opportunity to get up close to and even behind some of the textiles you’ve always wanted to see in person (sometimes the back of a textile is just a lovely as the front so we want to see them!)

Brilliant team will be looking after the show today and tomorrow, make sure you say hello and if you’d like to hear more about what’s in the show we’ll be walking you round the space as a part of our workshop on Friday, there are a few tickets if you’d like to sign up 🔝

Presenting Samantha Russell at 〰 A Textile Assembly 〰 which opens today at 12! We have just finished hanging this beautiful quilt, ready for you all to visit. It's even better in real life 🪡

Samantha Russell is an interdisciplinary artist and educator exploring a black British anti-colonial history through sustainable materials, handcrafts and moving image. Through her own practice, both working alone and collaboratively with artistic communities, she creates a historical legacy. Samantha is interested in the intersection between heritage, culture, and black British post-war identity, and has postgraduate training in Global Black Studies, Decolonisation and Social Justice. Sharing knowledge and skills through workshops is integral to Samantha's practice. She runs the brilliant teaching natural dye workshops bringing decolonial materials and histories to the forefront.
