This feels illegal to look at.

Digital artist is a mad genius, and my new favourite (unofficial) PokĆ©mon artist. They’ve been drawing and posting all sorts of beautifully chaotic images online for years – shout out the web comic, Adventures with Eggie (google it and spend an evening perusing) – and recently got an Instagram, so good news: you can follow along there.

They do look pretty similar...

For his masters degree, Canadian scientist Spencer K. Monckton spent time in Chile classifying bees – and naming any new species he found.

One of those names was the Chilicola Charizard, a nod to Spencer’s lifelong love of PokĆ©mon (his first ever starter was a Charmander), and the fact this particular bee does bear a striking resemblance to the fire-breathing lizard.

It was a simpler time 🄹

Back in 2000, PokƩmon toured the UK with a special roadshow. Fans would take their copies of Red, Blue and Yellow to the events, and in return would have Mew digitally transferred onto their cartridges.

It was a pretty clever setup for the time: you’d hand your Game Boy over to Nintendo staff, they’d plug it into a ā€œMew Machineā€ (another Game Boy) with a link cable, and a pre-programmed Mew would be dropped straight into your save file.

These photos are from Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent, which they temporarily renamed ā€œMewwaterā€ for the event.

How one camo conquered fashion…

Realtree started as a straight up hunting company. Forty years later, it’s the go-to camo for some of the world’s biggest clothing brands.

Malcolm dropped right as PokĆ©mania was hitting its peak…

And considering the show is about kids growing up during that era, it’s no surprise PokĆ©mon plushies and cards cropped up in a bunch of episodes.

But it didn’t end there. In 2003, a couple of young trainers who shared the names Lois and Hal with Malcolm’s parents showed up in PokĆ©mon Ruby & Sapphire. Then, in 2004, The PokĆ©mon Company sponsored a celebrity basketball fundraiser hosted by Frankie Muniz and attended by Bryan Cranston, who played Hal.

With the new MitM season premiering this week, what reference do we think they’re sneaking in? My best guess: Hal joins a dads-only collector group and becomes weirdly competitive about binder pages.

Which PokƩmon are you picking???

LEGO just announced that it’s letting fans design the first ever buildable PokĆ©mon TCG set – but there’s a catch (or four):

- You can only base your design on one of 30 PokƩmon.
- Sets must be 400–2,500 pieces.
- Your set must feature a full art design and can’t be based on an existing card’s artwork.
- No minifigures.

Submissions are open until the 6th of May, when LEGO will shortlist five builds which will go to a public vote. The winner gets their set turned into a real product, plus 1% of sales 🄹

Pokopia lets you do all sorts of things...

Last week, players were recreating real-world spots like IKEA and Olive Garden. This week, things have taken a turn: people are building maximum security prisons and locking Gen 1 PokƩmon Mr Mime inside.

In fairness, he is pretty unsettling – but what do you think, does he deserve to be behind bars?
