🍕Friday Night Domino’s🍕
Okay, so not the kind you were expecting but very tasty in a different way!
Summer may be setting here in the UK but we have a plethora of travel gifts ready to make your next vacation even more special.
Highlighted this week are a wonderful complete set of Victorian carved bone travelling domino’s in a fitted solid silver case. Hallmarked for 1899 they bear the makers mark of Grey & Co, esteemed novelty silversmiths to the great and the good during the Victorian era. At just 7cm long it is the epitome of the term ‘pocket-size’, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in timeless quality.

📚Which is mightier, the pen or the sword?⚔️
On my route back from the incredible art fair this Friday having walked 30km scouring for wonderful unique objects to add to the DandyFox collection.
One of our favourite purchases are these wonderful 1960’s Italian solid silver and lapis lazuli bookends, modelled as a European long sword. The perfect addition to the library and a fantastic gift for the man who loves books as much as they do weaponry.
For Sale - DM for details.

🐧 P-P-P Pick Up a Penguin! 🐧
The absolute ultimate in Antarctic dining - a solid silver condiment set in the form of a penguin family. Because, why not?!
These wonderful quality condiments, for mustard, salt and pepper are fully hallmarked for the esteemed London firm of Alfred Dunhill and were made in 1974. Perhaps the most charming feature is the mustard spoon in the mouth of the large penguin, the end of which terminates with a fish and sits beneath the penguins beak!
We will be sad to see these friends waddle off - DM us for more details.

💥An Absolute Cracker💥
Talk about (bad) timing! As ever I am late to the party but this wonderful little rarity can't wait a year for a new home.

This superb Victorian novelty silver box takes the form of a Christmas cracker and is hallmarked for Samuel Jacob, London, 1898. The hinged compartment is applied with a panel depicting a dancing couple and opens to reveal a velvet lined chamber for something sparkly.
If you don't know your cracker facts, the traditional versions were invented in London by the confectioner/baker Tom Smith during the 1860's, with his inspiration for the 'pop' sparked by the crackling sound of a wood fire.

I am not ususally one for a Father's day shout-out, but sometimes it is okay to break all the rules. This is my first as a dad, and my first without my dad, it is funny how the threads of the rich tapestry can be sewn.

Colin Clare quite simply, was a bit of a legend. A life spent travelling the world on the hunt for great (sometimes..!) antiques whilst spending an equal amount of time throwing down cricket balls or acting as honoury GK in the back garden. A man whose appetite for good food was outshone only by his appetite for a good chit-chat (sometimes one-way..), ideally combined with a the purchase of a few new additions to his ever increasing stock. 56 years as a devoted husband, 34 as a spectacular dad, forever a legend.

Sometimes life gives you roses, sometimes you get cancer - it is amazing how life can change on a pivot in the blink of an eye, whether it is finding your true love, or getting a brain tumour - as the song goes 'life is a rollercoaster, you just got to ride it'. We were lucky to get the time to make many beautiful memories, and for him to get all the time in the world with his grandson, who more than anyone was his driving force to keep on fighting. And oh how he fought, with the bravery of a lion and the humour that defined him, I could not be prouder of my dad, my inspiration, as I continue his footsteps in finding great things and finding them great homes. Happy Fathers Day.

Despite my love of gentleman's accessories, boys toys and cufflinks - I still wear my hat occasionally when I come across a nice little piece of early craftmanship.
This is a fine piece of heraldic engraving from the 17th century representing a marriage of two noble families. It is marked for Augsburg and the engraving is as crisp as the day it was made. Originally it would have formed the centre of a fine silver dish or tazza - possibly a wedding gift. A little piece of pocket history.

🐷This little piggy is coming to market! 🐷
"Scratch Me"! This super cool Victorian solid silver match box and striker was made by Andrew Barrett & Sons of Piccadilly in 1891! Perhaps a play on pub staple and Victorian invention, the pork scratching..?
This Babe is and looking for a new sty.

🧐⚾️Baseball Focus🧐⚾️
I remember my two week trip to Canada as a fresh faced 11 year old like it was yesterday - the highlight watching the Toronto Blue Jays in my very first experience of baseball.
Almost two decades later I find these amazing (and well hidden!) solid 14ct gold baseball bat & ball cufflinks from the 1920's - another exciting pair to add to the DandyFox Collection!

'The early bird catcheth the worm' (or match in this case!).
Although this delightful novelty combination silver match holder, striker, and ash tray is not as old as the famous proverb, it still dates to 1907.

For added interest the cockerel sits on a hinged perch which allows the bird to reach down and collect a match between its beak. A real rarity and must for the cigar smoking chicken lover!

"Gentleman, you may smoke" - King Edward VII at his coronation dinner, calling an end to Queen Victoria's ban on cigar smoking on Royal premises.
This beautiful Edwardian pen-work table is inset with the most incredible collage of a variety of silk cigar advertising wrappers. Excitingly, it also is tooled with the Royal insignia of King Edward VII and dated 1902.
One for a bit of research but I would love to think it a Royal gift - received or presented. This was a man of course who left White's club in 1868, after they restricted to***co use, and set up the The Marborough, his own super exclusive member's club - and who had an entire cigar brand named after him!
