Plastic is in "virtually everything" in the construction industry.

Some items need to contain plastic for safety reasons, such as intumescent strips which are used to seal fire doors, but changes include replacing acrylic paint with graphene and limestone, and finishing the kitchen in solid wood.

"When we have taken plastic out of the building we have replaced it with much more robust materials," he added.

The project's funding came from the Interreg North-West Europe funding partnership and was run in collaboration with Redditch Borough Council.

This article sums up where we are at with the Plastic Pollution Crisis. This crisis requires actions from many different sides.

'Despite wealthier nations consuming more plastic on a per-capita basis, lower and middle-income countries seem to account for a greater portion of marine plastic waste, because of large populations and underdeveloped waste management infrastructure.

Low-priced, small dose sachets or small packages of products such as shampoo or detergent have a disproportionate impact on waste, given the high packaging-to-product ratio and inadequate recycling facilities in emerging markets. This is a difficult problem'

Switching to a zero waste lifestyle is what us as consumers can do, cause Procter&Gamble won't ever say that lol!

“What’s so tragic about plastic pollution is that it is so totally unnecessary,” Attenborough says in the video, released by U.K. recycling firm Mura Technology. “The plastic in our oceans should never have found its way there in the first place.”

'New methods to cope with plastic waste are desperately needed, with more than 8 million tons of plastic waste ending up in the ocean every year. As well as destroying critical ocean ecosystems, these plastics break down into microplastics, which can now be found in almost every food system on Earth, including in our drinking water, table salt, and even in the air'

It's exciting news that a new plant is being built in UK that can recycle all types of plastic. However at NuSEAS we believe that us as consumers have the power to choose the amount of plastic that enters our households and lifestyle.

It's not about perfection, it's about progress 🐋

Wildlife filmmaker Sir David Attenborough has appeared in a video campaign for a new plastic recycling technology in the U.K., alongside other naturalists calling for stronger protections for the world’s oceans.

“The plastic waste generated in the United States is the largest amount of any country, but we have been ignoring the problem, outsourcing it to developing countries. And we are making a heavy contribution to the plastic crisis in the oceans”. Nick Mallos, senior director of the Marine Conservation Organisation’s Garbage-Free Ocean Program

The 28 EU Member States ranking second produce 54.56 kilograms of plastic waste per capita per year, which is only half of the United States’ plastic waste, while India ranks third.

69-year old N.S. Rajappan, who’s been paralyzed with polio since the age of five, has been plucking plastic bottles from the river for years to make a meager living. With no crutches to his name, he drags his legs a short way down to the Meenachil River, where he boards his little boat and peruses the waters in search of bottles.

This only earns him about Rs 12 (US 17 cents), which is just about enough for a meal. The satisfaction of helping the environment makes up the rest of his reward. “Somebody should remove the waste from the water… I am doing what is possible for me,” he told a local news outlet.

Imagine if we all took small steps to reduce single use plastics!!

'Where does waste come from? The world produces over 300 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, and this amount is still growing. Only 9% of this plastic waste is recycled. The rest is incinerated or discarded. Most of the discarded plastic waste is landfilled. The reason for this is that half of the plastics we produce is disposable plastics, i.e. plastic products such as straws, plastic bags and water bottles that are thrown away after they have been used'
