Happy launch day to for their newest sewing pattern Leah. It's a top and dress, and comes with so many options that I couldn't resist stocking it and sewing one up for the launch.

There are 4 different lengths, optional side ties, and your fabric choice will give you either full swish, or a little more structure. I've made mine in our Esmerelda viscose and made the tiered midi-dress version (which is more 'maxi' on me as I forgot to shorten it).

It's a fairly simple sew - it has bias bound neckline and armholes, which is the trickiest bit - but otherwise it's a really satisfying make. My only gripe... pockets. The pattern doesn't come with them but they're very easy to add. (Tilly has free inseam pocket pattern pieces and tutorial on her website.) However I forgot to measure where they should go. So I have made them for someone with Mr Tickle length arms. The top of the pocket is probably at my finger tips. I'm a nitwit.

I can officially say I'll be living in this dress over summer and I've got plans for my next one.

I've always had a soft spot for art history of the 20th century. I was aware of Salvador Dalì and his lobster telephone, but I only became aware of Elsa Schiaparelli's lobster dress recently. It was a collaboration between her and Dalì, made for Wallis Simpson in the late 1930s and has a huge lobster, rather provocatively, at the front (swipe for pic).

Anyway, to cut a long story short - this fabric is absolutely of that vein. Those lobsters are statement size and I'm completely here for it. It's on a flowing viscose which looks like it has a slubby texture to the cloth. I'm thinking garments with large panels would be fantastic, like the Fibre Mood Alix skirt. Or the Named Patterns suvi caftan.

We had a big drop of new fabrics launch yesterday, which has kept me busy in the studio today cutting orders! Thank you so much. This fabric has proved a favourite - it's a cotton poplin by Karina+Kind called "Bush Fanfare". (If those parrots are half as loud as the parakeets in South East London, then it's very aptly titled!)

It's a cotton poplin, so a little stiffer in handle than our previous Karina+Kind sateen. It will hold a puff sleeve or a pleat really well. I'm all about leaning into the statement with this fabric so a simply silhouette would work really well. Something like the Atelier Brunette la robe zippée or la robe flare would both work really well with a statement print.
