HUGE love to everyone who came through to .earth

An enriching evening of conversation exploring our global fashion supply chain and the social and environmental impact it has from here in the UK to Ghana. We discussed consumption, colonialism, capitalism in relation to the second hand trade, as well as how the trade could be positively impacted by collective action, fair legislation and design solutions such as upcycling.

Special thanks to our panellists .earth for sharing vital insights on the trade, discussing both obstacles and solutions across this supply chain - providing space for curiosity - and inspiring hope and action, alongside our moderator of , leading the conversation with critical intention, for providing the platform for this vital discourse and of course founder for this expertly led research project.

BALE TALES

LFW is always fab but would really love to see us working, even talking, a lot more on challenging our current systems in our industry and pressing the question of how we’re going to change these systems *together*, it feels like the perfect moment to do so but it still seems like an afterthought - at this point we’re not sure how.

We’ve partnered with .earth to curate an exhibition and conversation this LFW exploring and rethinking the “disposal” stages of our global fashion supply chain. In essence, where do our things go when were done with them, donated/thrown away? Countries in the global south such as Ghana are the recipients, and our used things become their responsibility, flooding their beaches and overloading their landfills, all the while out of the UK’s sight and minds.

Our all designer panel, moderated by of will be dissecting the nuanced topic of our modern day consumption and it’s impact on our planet and our people, amplifying design solutions that are happening both in the UK and Ghana to try and combat waste in relation to the second hand trade, how we can build networks upon that as well as influence positive action and legislation in our industry.

The global second hand clothing trade, the underbelly of the fashion industry and a reflection of our modern day consumption-led identity.

We recently had the pleasure of being invited to join a panel discussing the extremely pressing conversation surrounding used clothing exports and the nuanced narratives that surround them.

Held at as part of the MA Narrative Environments showcase, hosted by by Mariella Hilton , Bale Tales takes you on a journey behind the “disposal” stage of the global fashion supply chain.

Focusing on the UK’s used clothing exports to Ghana, Bale Tales is a project that highlights the characters and artisans in Ghana who work in and around the trade and deal directly with the textile waste that ends up on their shores, such as solution led designer and fellow panelist .earth.

This project portrays a complex, insightful look into consumption, value and identity, leaving you with questions and urging you to delve deeper into your personal and cultural relationship with fashion.

Looking forward to opening up the discussion further in collaboration with Bale Tales, keep a look out for more news very soon!

Practicing a seasonless approach to collections, their runs are super limited / made to order. Playing with sculpture or drape, when they’re not designing their main line, they’re creating custom fantasies for other artists 🧚‍♂️
