It’s with a heavy heart I must announce the closure of Denny’s Books.

I’m devastated that our bookshop has to close due to the property being sold and the new owners using it for their own business. We are unable to find a new location in Thames Ditton and have thought of every possible solution to keep the shop going.

Thank you to every single person who has supported us over the past three years. I’ve made some life long friends through the shop and have loved every minute of speaking to you all.

Everything must go so we have 20% off on all paperbacks and all hardbacks are £10.

We will be closing our doors on the 20th of December and we are still accepting orders up until the 16th December.

Thank you again for all the support over these years.

Kala by Colin Walsh

'A spectacular read for Donna Tartt and Tana French fans'

We used to be such a force, back then when she was still with us. What happened to her? In the seaside town of Kinlough three old friends are thrown together for the first time in years. They - Helen, Joe and Mush - were part of an original group of six inseparable teenagers in the summer of 2003, with motherless, reckless Kala Lanann as their group's white-hot centre.

Soon after that summer's peak, Kala disappeared without a trace. Now it's fifteen years later. Human remains have been discovered in the woods.

Two more girls have gone missing. As past and present begin to collide, the estranged friends are forced to confront their own complicity in the events that led to Kala's disappearance...

Pearl by Sian Hughes

A medieval poem, an unmarked tombstone and the tidal pull of a river spell either destruction or salvation for young Marianne in Hughes' bravura study of fractured childhood and the healing power of art.

Marianne is eight years old when her mother goes missing. Left behind with her baby brother and grieving father in a ramshackle house on the edge of a small village, she clings to the fragmented memories of her mother’s love; the smell of fresh herbs, the games they played, and the songs and stories of her childhood.

As time passes, Marianne struggles to adjust, fixated on her mother’s disappearance and the secrets she’s sure her father is keeping from her. Discovering a medieval poem called Pearl and trusting in its promise of consolation, Marianne sets out to make a visual illustration of it, a task that she returns to over and over but somehow never manages to complete.

Tormented by an unmarked gravestone in an abandoned chapel and the tidal pull of the river, her childhood home begins to crumble as the past leads her down a path of self-destruction. But can art heal Marianne? And will her own future as a mother help her find peace?

Out today!

Monstrilio by Gerardo Samano Cordova

Grieving mother Magos cuts out a piece of her deceased eleven-year-old son Santiago's lung. Acting on fierce maternal instinct and the dubious logic of an old folktale, she nurtures the lung until it gains sentience, growing into the carnivorous little Monstrilio she keeps hidden within the walls of her family's decaying Mexico City estate. Eventually, Monstrilio begins to resemble the Santiago he once was, but his innate impulses-though curbed by his biological and chosen family's communal care-threaten to destroy this fragile second chance at life.

A thought-provoking meditation on grief, acceptance, and the monstrous sides of love and loyalty, Gerardo Samano Cordova blends bold imagination and evocative prose with deep emotional rigor. Told in four acts that span the globe from Brooklyn to Berlin, Monstrilio offers, with uncanny clarity, a cathartic and precise portrait of being human.
